Childhood Obesity: Bryson Bmoney Jenkins Fights Back!

Childhood Obesity: Bryson Bmoney Jenkins Fights Back!

"Being only 26 years old and recovering from a long childhood of obesity, I know the effects it can have on you mentally and physically as an adult. I feel there are so many things taken from you when you are overweight as a child. Like getting on rides, being social, meeting new friends, confidence in your appearance, and just being who you are or who you want to be. Adolescence is such a precious time; it truly affects who you become as an adult.

Your childhood should be filled with laughter, joy, and moments you keep with you forever. It shouldn't be burdened by the realities of your weight and life so soon. Life is as hard as it is, and just to think about a child having to worry about such adult things like diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma etc., is such a sad thing.

The sad reality of it all is that this generation of children has a low percentage rate of outliving their parents. There are a lot of things we can't control in life, but one thing that we can control and help prevent is childhood obesity. We can't do it through force, but through love, support, education, and prevention" -Bryson Bmoney Jenkins.

About Bryson

As an obese child and teen, Bryson Jenkins found that he had a passion for music and for the stage. At the age of 17, Bryson auditioned for American Idol only to be told that the judges loved his voice, but that America wasn't ready for another "Ruben Studdard." Soon after his audition, Bryson was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. He was devastated. Two years later, weighing 452 pounds, young Bryson Jenkins had a mild stroke at the age of 19 while performing on stage. A few months later, he had another stroke. He was just 21 years old and once again on stage, when his left side began to seize and the left side of his face went numb. He was rushed to the hospital where he was told that he had suffered a heart attack. His struggle with obesity was literally killing him.

Bryson's survival instincts kicked in, and he put a plan into action to save his life and regain his health. On January 4, 2010, Bryson had gastric bypass. Since that life-changing day, he has lost a total of 232 pounds and with that loss, he has gained health, confidence, and a belief in himself and his abilities.

Not only is Bryson a survivor, he's an R&B singer and songwriter that expresses his life story and love for life through his songwriting and performances. ObesityHelp is honored to have Bryson Bmoney perform live at the OH Atlanta's Masquerade Party on October 6, 2012. Bryson wrote the song "Love In Your Heart" when he decided to have weight-loss surgery. He said, "It's my favorite song on my working progress album; it's my life story."

Bryson says, "When a lot of people hear ‘Love in Your Heart,' they think it's about a person that I'm pleading to. It's really me pleading with myself. I struggled with me for so long that I was tired. I just wanted to be happy again and alive."

See Bryson's Before & After progress photos, and check out the amazing sounds of Bryson below. This is just a sneak peek, come see him in Atlanta, you won't want to miss out on his story and his voice!
