Does any one know if the longer the common channel is say 100cm or 125cm verces 50cm will have less of a chance of possible bad body oder, or does it not matter, the side effects are the same? thanks for any answers.

The body odor thing is really pretty much a non-issue for us.  Except for changes brought on by ketosis.  Ketosis is very short lived and can happen to anyone who loses weight quickly, whether by diet and exercise or WLS.

I've had the pleasure of meeting over a dozen DS'ers and have not yet encountered anyone with any body odor -- so NO, cc length plays no differrence there.

I have one of the shortest cc lengths and have not had any body odor.  I had body odor sometimes when I was MO because of the sweating, but none now.  Like Val said I have spent time with many DS'ers and never encountered an odor. Kym

You got some great answers from these great vets.  I am less than six weeks out and I eat anything I want, except white flour, I take lactaid when I drink milk or eat milk products and my common channel is 90 cm.    I do not have body odor, if I did my kids, the kids at their schools, my relatives, my friends or especially my husband would be more than happy to tell me I stink.  No side effects that I can think of except my bathroom habits are more normal and less stinky than they were as a preop.   Read the side effects listed on any prescription med you are taking and then think about how many of them you actually suffer from.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

70 cm commn channel here, and if I stink it's because I haven't showered.  That rarely happens that I don't take a shower though, I love my new body and I love looking nice, so NOPE!  No smells here.  And none from the 30+ DSers I've met in real life.  Total myth.

You know, I am SO weary of this wacky idea that the DS in some way causes body odor.  THE DS DOES NOT CAUSE ANY BODY ODOR. My CC is 75 and I DO NOT HAVE BODY ODOR. Ketosis is a complicated metabolic process that happens on a low carb diet, whether or not a person has had the DS.  This can cause bad breath, but I have yet to read anywhere that it causes some foul body odor. Here's a link to an explanation of ketosis.  It's easy to understand and is good to remember as part of your general pre-op research. Ketosis Symptoms - LoveToKnow Diet

Body odor has NOTHING to do with the DS or even the length of their common channel. Certain postops REGARDLESS of what type of WLS they have (DS, LapBand, RnY, VSG, etc), may experience ketosis. Even those who never had WLS can go through ketosis.  Aside from that, practicing good hygiene and that means oral hygiene, armpits hygiene, hair hygiene, genital hygiene and any other orafice you have, should be wash frequently. Your body and mouth should be cleanses on a daily basis and the use of a deodorant is recommended as for your armpits, as well as, but not necessary, powder or lotion for your body, regardless who you are or what type of surgery you had.  Body odor is not a side effect from having the DS or from any of the other WLS. Body odor is based on ketosis and the other reason would be from not having proper hygiene.

I don't know what my cc length is..but I'm going to assume it's 100cm.  And no, I don't stink.
