Are you eating and drinking milk products?  Yogurt, cheese, milk, cottage cheese, ice cream?  Chances are you are lactose intolerant.  The dairies are EASY to eat this early out, but MANY of us are lactose intolerant.  85% of the enzyme that your stomach used to have to break down the milk products, has now been cut away.  The enzyme is called lactase and without it, you cannot process milk products correctly.  For those who are lactose intolerant, this can mean gas, bloating, and even diarrhea.  I would cut all dairy for 48 hours, if this solves the problem...you know your culprit.  There is something that can help you significantly.  Lactaid Pills are an over the counter enzyme that you can take with your first bite of dairy to alleviate your symptoms.  Lactaid is an enzyme called lactase....the stuff that many no longer have after having 85% of their stomach removed.  The Lactaid pills will break down the dairy FOR you if you no longer are able to process it on your own.

The good news is that many people do not remain lactose intolerant.  I am one who is still lactose intolerant, but the symptoms are greatly improved.  I still take Lactaid, but it doesn't kill me anymore if I miss a dose from time to time while eating dairy.

Your body is still getting used to the new plumbing.....  give it a little time.  I think gas and diahrea are normal at 1 month out!

That being said.... are you drinking milk or anything with milk products ?  I turned lactose intolerant after surgery.  Try cutting out milk and anything with whey.

Are you eating things with sugar / white flour / white rice / crackers / bread ?  Stop!  That could be causing the bloating.

If that doesn't help you could have a bacterial infection -- an antibiotic like Flagyl can often help.

Good Luck!

Hi D. I am so sorry to hear of your uncomfortable gas. I can totally relate to this. I had problems when ever I eat dairy. Try ommitting all dairy for a few days and see if this helps. Its a process of alimination. Good luck. Hope you get it resolved quickly.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!!!
The main problem I felt was and is the gas!!!! One prayer that it passes is comming your way. Thing is you never think something as minor as gas would really be the problem but it was the worst.

Be patient.  I had terrible gas and bloating for a year out.  I thought I was going to explode the first time I ate a slice of white bread.  I did not have any dairy or white food during my first six months and still had gas.  I am now almost 3 years out and only get gas if I eat baked sweets, ice cream, etc. or Ice Breakers Mints.  My problem improved over time, but in the interim, I was miserable.  So......I know what you are going through.  As an additional tip, when the bloating and gas build up to a pain level, try lying flat on the floor for a few minutes.  Seems straightening things out helped some.  Hang in there.
