Help my choir with your too-big pants!
Hello all:
I have a strange favor to ask of you. As many of you know, I am a music teacher and choir director at a very small, rural school. We are located in the lowest-income school district in Michigan. We also, sadly, have the highest teen pregnancy rate, and twice the state average of reported child abuse cases. It's a tough job, but I love it. I feel it is my calling in life. I require that my choir students wear black pants and shoes with their choir robes and khakis with our more casual choir polo shirts. Many of my students can barely afford to buy a pair of blue jeans, let alone dress pants and shoes. Some of my girls are big girls. A common misconception is that if you're poor you're thin, and most often, the opposite is true. In the poverty culture, it's all about quantity of food and not quality. We have been asked to sing for the University of Michigan Alumni Association's annual dinner - a wonderful honor for my kids - and many of my students do not own khakis. Heck, the closest Walmart is 35 miles away, and many don't even have a working automobile! If any of you have any gently used dress pants or khakis (or even black dress shoes for that matter) in ANY sizes, big or small, I'd gladly reimburse you for shipping if you'd care to send them to me. Simply drop me a PM and I'll send you my address. Thanks!

I do have boys, but right now, they are all middle school and pretty small. I think my largest boy probably only wears a 32 waist! Shoes? That might be a different story though, as boys' feet grow big FAST!

Oh my gosh, Jane! You look amazing! I'll tell ya what...maybe in the next week or two I can meet you in Chase or Hawkins or such. Also, I'm heading down to Detroit to see my family on, I think, April, 2. Maybe we can take 10 to 131 down to GR instead of 31 to 96, and I can meet up with you then. Thanks!
