Honesty about How I am 3 Months Out.

I am 3 months out from an open DS.

I am down 66 pounds.  Other than chasing 4 kids all day, I am not exercising.  I know...boo!

I am *still* not on VL's schedule, but my husband has agreed to it after 1st of the year when we have some money again.  I am taking "other" vites.

My 3 month labs showed a Vit D deficiency, so I am taking that from Vita Lady.

I am sleepy A LOT!  Ironically, my sleep apnea is resolved.  Go figure?

I have no other co-morbidities.

When I eat, I am eating almost exclusively protein.  However, I still cannot eat much at a time.  I do occassionally give into a bit of fruit or veggies.  I LOVE those!

I HATE protein shakes in any flavor or form.  They make me vomit.  Isopure too.  I can do bars with no ill effects.  I don't like them, but I can choke them down.

I must confess, I am a meal skipper.  I was before WLS,and I still am.  I get busy with th  kids and will often skip BFast, and sometimes lunch too!  I know it is SO bad!!!  Help me!

I drink water all the live live long day.

I battle nausea on and off.

I am so happy to be shedding the weight, but know I need to do better with the eating & stuff.

Try to be gentle in your critiques  : )

BTW...I am getting to do something I was never able to do "fat"...star in musicals again!!!  What a dream come true!

66 lbs in 3 months- yeah!!!

I am going to "yell" at you as I do my daughter when she skips meals. Your body really needs them, and that's probably why you are so tired all the time. You need to fuel the 'mommy machine' or else you aren't going to be able to chase the kids all day long for long. But please understand, I'm yelling with love. Cause nobody wants to see you hurt yourself by not eating what you need to keep your body healthy.

Okay, I will try to be kind about this.

Taking supplements is just non-negotiable. It's a matter of life and death. A slow, horrible, nasty death..but death none the less. I am a stay at home Mom as well, and on a strict budget, but this was part of what I knew I had to do before getting the DS, and my husband knew as well. I will not ask him permission to keep myself alive and healthy.

Your body stores things for later. You are about to get to the end of later.
We malabsorb. So you are using up the last of your normal stores and it requires GREAT effort to get back to acceptable levels with your new body.
Can you afford a sitter to care for your babies while you stay in the hospital with malnutrition? If you can, then you can afford the vites.

You are also at the small window of time you get to build up to 100+ grams of protein a day. Are you getting this in? If not, you'll see that drop on your labs the next go around since you can't drink a shake.
You said you can eat protein bars, so maybe you are getting enough to supplement your eating?

Speaking of shakes. How many different ways have you tried them? You like fruit, have you made fruit protein smoothie yet?
Shakes tasted just fine through my feeding tube. Protein was tasteless through my PICC line.

Meal skipping. I had to tackle this myself and know it can be difficult but it was a must. I have to graze to get in everything my body needs at 15 months out, so I am sure at 3 months out you need to be eating a little and often.

I'd suggest joining in on the bites and vites thread. It's great that you have opened yourself up to critiques and that would be a great way of making yourself accountable each day till you get your eating and supplements up to par. It seems like to me that you are perfectly aware of where this could lead and you are asking for help. Good deal.

Thank you, Charity.  I am aware of where my "bad behavior" is going to get me.  And I do want some tough love from you guys.

Vites and Bites is a great idea!!

Here's another dose just in case you don't get the message and instead make agreeable sounds to get people off of your back.

Your husband doesn't get a ******g say in your health.
He doesn't get to keep you without your daily nutritional needs for a whole ******G YEAR while your values tank and your health suffers just because you don't have the money.  When you got this surgery, YOU made a commitment to your HEALTH and to your CHILDREN that you would take care of yourself.  If you're not supplementing and if you don't intend to supplement until your anniversary, you're breaking that contract and you and your family will reap the horrible rewards.  If you truly don't have the money for it, you need to find another job.  2nd, 3rd shift, work from home, I don't care.  If you have time to post here, you have time to get creative and find ways to make money to get your damned vites.

I honestly don't think you're entirely aware of where your "bad behavior" is going to get you, and the impact it's going to have on your kids.  If you can't figure out anything else, you can check out this thread:

ok, wait... is she not getting on the Vitalady plan until january? or until she is a year out post-op?

not that it really matters... they are both terrible ideas.

To the original poster:

Times are tough... i know. I was laid off and money is tight. But my vitamins are something that are non negotiable. You knew this before you had surgery.... Cop-outs aren't an option now...

HA!  Good catch.  I read her post three times and each time read, "after the first year..."  Gods, this has been a long week.

Shannon!  Please take my vitriol at 75% strength, as I can't read worth ****

Hello Shannon!! I wanna start by saying congrats on the weight loss!! Isn't the DS great!!
I just texted my friend (who is pre op and getting the DS now!!!! yay!!!) and said "I just ate 12 ounces of chili and 4 ounces of applesauce in 30 mins!! I love my DS!!!!)

Now i want to say shame shame on u for the protein and vitamins... protein is non negotiable and so are vitamins!!!  In the link below I want u to take a look at my 3 month labs.. then take a look at allll the vitamins I take, and have been taking from about 4 or 5 weeks post op! I'm trending downwards fast and I'm a vitamin nazi!! I also get 100G of protein a day.. and I'm LOW. If you dont like protein shakes, oh fricken well. u need to mix that protein **** with 4 ounces of water and stomach that **** down like medicine!!! and if u really cant (like ppl like Jenna who are allergic) then u need to be eating more than one dang meal a day!!

Like Gina said, we can drop like rocks in no time!
