is anyone out there happy with their rny to erny revision???
i have asked this question before and have not gotten positive feedback I am kind of hoping someone will say " ya, my erny is great go for it randy". It looks like that Dr g will only revise me from a1998 rny to an erny. Final for him. He told me to go to Dr. k if I insist on the Ds. I appreciate him saying that but it also brings home to me the fact that I will have to leave my 5 children and go cross country for almost 2 weeks. I understand its my life and i have to take care of it but my kids are my life too and I do not have the support system alot of people have to take over. Okay I'll stop whining now!!!!! But seriously if you like your revision from rny to erny please contact me. Maybe there is something I don't know . My main concern is long term health risks and managing my weight loss once the weight has come off. The ds seems to have the best track record for that if I am not mistaken.
Thanks all,
Randy
You will have to decide whether you can leave for a few weeks to get the best for your health and recovery in order to BE with you family for the better long term health.
Many have had to travel to get the best doctor to do the revisions,,, they are MUCH harder and take lots more skill.
Now you come here obviously not taking on that the Erny is far from a good option trying to get us to cookie cutter an acceptable response for you to justify your frankly VERY bad decision. It is easy to blame the kids but at the end of the day you're going back under the knife for a dangerous revision and trusting someone who doesn't have your best interests at heart nor the technical skill to undertake the operation you need. So if you don't inconvenience your kids but end up with post op complications then what?
Don't be ******g stupid woman. You are needing a real wake up call. This surgery (ERNY) isn't done routinely because it has terrible stats. You've already had a surgical failure and now you're about to rack up number two and it ****** me off. Why should you get an opportunity to have a DS and chose the most ****ty surgery on the block instead? Do you have any idea how many people here are sweating blood trying to get approval for the DS?
Man up, move on and either get the DS or flake out and get the ERNY but don't ask me or anyone else here to tell you it is ok to butcher yourself. It isn't. Why anyone would pile dumping on top of chroic malabsorbtion and expect to flourish is beyond me. It is hard enough getting in my protein and meds every day with a healthy DS system but trading that for a blind pouch know all that can go wrong......no way..........just no way..........
The folks here I know with the ERNY had major surgical malfunctions and ended up not out of choice having this surgery. They struggle each day with diet and malnutrition. It is no life...no life at all,
Consider this tough love.
No one quite knows what the deal is with Dr. Greenbaum and RNY to DS revisions. Maybe there is some administrative issue. Maybe he became overwhelmed with these challenging cases because everyone on the East coast was coming to him and only him. Keep in mind that it isn't just the surgery that's a challenge, it's the post-op care. With complications, it can drag on for months. Just one or two tough cases can be very taxing for the surgeon (though I don't mean to minimize that the patient has the really tough end of it).
It's true that the ERNY would be lower risk than RNY to DS - short term, anyway. But we've also seen people with excellent weight loss but severe long term complications from ERNY, which were only resolved by yet another operation to go from ERNY to DS. So at the very, very least, consult with either Dr. Gagner or Dr. K before making this decision.

I do not understand why Dr.G , who is a fantastic surgeon, is not doing DS revisions anymore but that's his choice and I respect it. I am not happy with the fact you've gone thru everything and finally get approved and are then told NO I will only do the ERNY - that's a bait and switch as far as I'm concerned unless he told you upfront about it.
Dr.K is a wonderful surgeon and I would trust him with my life again in a heartbeat. Yes there were additional costs and I still worry that if something goes wrong I will have to fly across the country but that's life - he at least gave me a second chance at mine!
I wish you luck - I hope you are able to find a way to make this happen. Just make sure you go to only the BEST revisions surgeons - Dr.Keshishian, Dr.Rabkin, Dr.Gagner....this surgery is NOT to be taken lightly.
Good luck!

I agree with the other posters.
Dr. Gagner is closer to you than Dr. K is. I'm not sure how insurance covers surgeries that are done outside of the country, but it's worth looking into.
I would NEVER support a revision to an ERNY, but if you really want to learn first hand from people who are living with it, you may want to post on the RnY board or the revision board.
I hope everything works out for you! I know what it's like to have kids and to really need some hands-on support for them during the tough times. I hope you're able to find someone who is generous, trustworthy and competent to help you out so that you can get your surgery and recover fully.
