Stitches Leaking ... Alot!

Hi, I woke up this morning to find that one of my lap sites was oozing. I cleaned the area {I'm a Registered Nurse} and proceded to squeeze out a large amount of funky fluid out  of the wound. The area had been painful to touch yesterday {Now I know why}. Has anyone else experienced this type of issue? What did you do? I'm avoiding my physician and the hospital because H1N1 is running rampant in our area. I have no fever and still have some post-op {6 days} antibiotics to take {2 days}. Suggestions are welcome?
Thanks.

Is it a yeast infection?  Was the funky ooze malodorous?  I only ask because I had a port for IV medication in my arm this summer (totally non-WLS related), and after about 4 weeks of having it, I developed a yeast infection in about a day and a half.  With as quickly as this has come on for you, and what you are describing, it sounds a lot like my same situation.

I hate to tell you, but I think the doctor's office is inevitable.  :(  GOOD LUCK, keep us posted!

Yes, your area just above your belly button is the last to heal. It will ooze for some time yet.

My doc told me this before leaving the hospital. I was told to remove the bandage, gently wash the area, as I shower, with an anti-bacterial soap and re-bandage. He even gave me the bandages (Mexico, go figure). He did reiterate, DO NOT PULL THE SCAB OFF.

Legal announcement: I would think,"not to worry", but I am not a doctor, I am only a rocket scientist....John

You are not that far out from surgery.  If you do not want to chance going to the doc, I would at least call and explain your situation.  He may be able to call you in something.

Hey there!

Is it a smelly orangey color with a big red circle around it? If so, I'm having the same thing. Stands to reason since we were there with the same *ahem* caretakers, that it might be the same thing. I went to the doctor here and she said two things: Cellulitis and MRSA staph. I had to stop taking the antibiotics I got from there and start Clindamycin (Bactrim will work but I'm allergic) because the stuff we got from MX wasn't strong enough so it wasn't doing any good against the infection. I also got some freaking vicodin for the pain. I'm going back today to probably have it lanced. I encourage you to go to the doctor for some better antibiotics.

Antibiotics work differently on each person. Did your DR. do a culture? or was she guessing it was MRSA/Cellulitis? It is a really harsh comment without a culture.

She didn't do a culture. She said it was MRSA because of the antibiotics I was on and how they weren't doing a thing for the infection. I just got back from the ER where my dr sent me after taking a look at all the crazy drainage. It was thoroughly flushed and packed. Now I have to go to a surgeon in the morning to make sure everything is looking good.

With that particular antibiotic you will soon know if it is MRSA or not.  If this abx does not work then please make them culture the wound before trying something else.  You can't let this continue.

MAKE your doc stay on top of this.  MRSA is nothing to mess with.

They did a culture at the ER tonight. I haven't gotten the results yet.

It will take a few days to get the results.  They probably did a C&S.  Culture and Sensitivity.  Please let us know what the results are.
