The first day post-op is awful. I really feel for you, because I was nauseous and puking and feeling just freaking awful that first day. It gets better fast, though, so hang in there. Make sure you ask the doctor, because everyone is different. I was at least able to swallow my own spit. Sorry you're having a rough morning. I hope your first few days go by fast and you can get back to feeling like yourself soon!

I had what felt like spasms and it was very painful.  I know the hospital gave me reglan then toridol and by the midway through the second day (that's when they changed my meds) I felt so much better.  I guess the reglan helped the spasms and the toridal help with the swelling?  I'm not sure if it was time or the meds but I know I felt 100% better.

Hope this helps!

My first day post-op was the worst. I didn't have the nausea problem. They had me wear a patch the night before the surgery and that really helped with that. The hiccups suck! So does coughing. But I promise you, you will feel better tomorrow.

6 days post op here and today is the first day I feel even remotely like myself.  Its horrible the first few days.  If they will let you suck on sugar free candy do that.  It helped me a lot the first day.  I couldnt drink anything for almost 36 hours so if it wasnt for the candy and they would let me pu****er soaked sponges in my mouth to moisten it.  It will get better.  The things you are feeling are completely normal....

It's esophageal swelling and irritation. Just remember, each day gets lots better! ;o)

I had my surgery with Dr. Aceves on 08-27 and did really well (in fact, I had to jokingly ask Dr. Aceves if he actually did surgery, lol!).  I didn't have any problems that you are describing, but the others who were there with me all had different experiences.  I suppose that I was lucky with no complications.  My only complaint was that the drain tube/bag was "annoying".

You are in good hands and have plenty of time there to get things worked out.  It really DOES get better everyday (especially after the drain is out)!!

Whats the drain, how long do you have to keep it in?

I had no drain after my sleeve surgery.  Not everyone does, and also depends on the surgeon.
