Ugh...I've been battling this too.  Right after surgery, got very constipated and started taking mirilax.  It did help, but was hoping not to have to take it every day.  I tried the smooth moves tea for a week, but I'm constipated again.  I just bought some more mirilax today and will take full dose until, um, you know! And then cut back to a half dose a day.  I have been trying to get some green veggies in 2 meals a day, but at this point I'm only getting about 1-2 T, so obviously not enough to help.  And my water is always over 80 every day.  I guess we're just full of ****!!  Hope you find some relief soon!

Cutting out whole food groups can be problematic. There are certainly good reasons to do so for some people (my granddaughter is allergic to dairy, for instance) it isn't necessary for weight loss. It is possible to stay within a modest calorie budget and get in sufficient protein while eating small portions of veg, whole grains and even fruit as long as junk food is avoided.

Not only does eating a more balanced diet help a LOT with constipation, (yay fibre!) but it helps avoid some common deficiencies like magnesium, which also helps avoid constipation.
