Was any one else told they would not be able to give blood after VSG?
Before donating it is a good idea to have your iron, total iron binding capacity, and ferritin levels checked. If they're good, your surgeon might give the go ahead to donate. Hemoglobin/hematocrit don't always give the full picture, and that's typically all the blood mobile will check prior to allowing donation.
I'm all for donating! I needed several units of blood and blood product following my recent surgery, but you can't risk your own health if your body can't tolerate the blood loss well because your body isn't absorbing iron optimally.

I wonder why they tell us this.......Your only a little over three months out and your chemistries aren't messed up. I agree that with the small amount of food we are able to take in during the first six months, giving blood would be a bad idea but they state it as if its something you are going to have to deal with forever. I don't know...... Glad to see your doing well. Congrats on the labs!!
