I am trying to get to the bottom of my sister's problem.  I do not get to spend a lot of time with her so here goes!!!  Is it possible that the small intestines could be dying since they were tied off?  Do they still have blood supply? What if any is there function? She has had a Revision from a RNY, to a DS.
Thank you

No they dont die off...they are actually still there...things have just been reconnected lower to add the malabsorption part of the surgery...I am 5 years out of DS and have lost 220 pounds.  It has been a long and not always easy journey never the less I wouldnt change a thing.  Just offer her a shoulder if she needs one and keep being as supportive as you seem to be now...a caring family member is always needed.

If the intestines were to twist or get obstructed, I believe they can die but it's not like the surgeon just ties them off.  They should have a full blood supply.

What is going on with your sis and is she getting good medical care?

My Sis is in Arizona for another 2 & 1/2 months.  She is in Queen Creek.  She had her surgery in Brazil about 7 months ago.  She cannot find a Dr.  Does anyone know where she can go.  Then we need to find a Dr. near Crystal Lake, IL as well.
Thank you again

You might want to repost this on the DS board.

I use to live near Queen Creek in Gilbert, Arizona before we moved here.  There are several very good bariatric doctors there, go on the state board for Arizona and ask those people for a referal to one.  Mine was all the way in Scottsdale so I don't think you would want to do that, plus she's not an RNY doctor.  You might be able to look on that board and go under bariatric surgeons in the area and see who specializes in that area.

I would do the same for Illinois.

Dr. Blackstone is a great doc, and she has done RNY's in the past - worth a try.

I would suggest on posting on the state forums.  I know Dr. Shleossinger (Not sure how to spell it) in Phoenix takes other surgeons patients.  Not sure about others.

Tell your sister to call St. Luke hospital - they have a WLS program called Bridges.  See if one of their doctors will help her.  She can also call Dr. Terry Simpson, he has done the DS in the past (no longer) and is very good about providing follow up care to people who have had surgeries with other docs.  You can find good info about at www.obesitydr. com

Which DS surgeon did she have there?

If she can't find a DS surgeon near her in IL for follow-up care,, I know it is a bit of a flight to N. Texas (but a lot closer than to Brazil!) ...  Dr. Daryl Stewart here in Denton, an experienced and very competent DS surgeon, is happy to do followups on other DS surgeon's patients ...

  Good luck to her ..
