Loss of voice after surgery....

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced voice loss after surgery.  I know that with being intubated you run the risk.  I'm only curious if anyone experienced long term damage or how long it took for your vocal cords to heal.  And what you did to help them along.  A Dr. friend of mine told me to stop talking all together and get vocal rest and to see an ENT specialist if it isn't better by 7 days post-op.
Thanks

I was raspy for a good day or two after surgery. Over my adult life, this surgery was the 6th time I had been intubated (the tube goes between your vocal cords), and after this one I cannot sing like I used to. I wonder if it's from another intubation...considering all possible complications, I suppose it could be worse. Rest your voice, hope all goes well.

Yeah mine is the same today as it was the day the extubated me!  I sound like I'm whispering and if I talk for more than 5 minutes I lose it completely.  Today actually seems worse than the last few days though.  I'm making an appt tomorrow for an ENT specialist.  I'm worried I may have dislocated a vocal cord.  If it isn't better by Tuesday I will definately see the specialist!

Do you have Apnea?  If so, are you still using your CPAP.  If you are still having GERD while you sleep, it will cause you to have a raspy voice.

I do not have Apnea.  This voice loss is related to being intubated.  Thanks for the idea though!
