I would appreciate any information and/opinions on Dr. Eric Schlesinger please. It seems since I posted my profile I am getting lots of emails saying he is the best or that I will die if I use him as a surgeon. Obviously everyone has an opinion and I would love to have some input please.
My surgery of choice is DS and I am hoping to have it in the next 2 months December 2009-January 2010.
If you have actually used Dr S for your surgery I would especially like to hear from you first hand.
Thanks all!

I just want to encourage you to get the surgery you want, even if that means finding another surgeon.  I know nothing about him.  But, I too hope to have a DS, and don't let anything get in the way.  People travel all the time to have this surgery.  There are good options in Southern and northern Cal too if you decide to go elsewhere!  I would post this ? on the DS forum instead of the main board.  You are bound to get more traffic there.

Best to you!

Did you cross post this on the DS board?

Can anyone there help me regarding Dr. Eric Schlesenger.  My daughter who has PCOS and has suffered with obesity her entire life is scheduled to have bariatric surgery through Bridges in Tempe AZ in June 2011.  We are out of country residents and travelling here as this is unavailable at home.  Reading these posts and quite worried.  Should we proceed?

I have not heard anything bad or good about Dr. Schlesinger as a DS surgeon.  I also traveled for my DS, as do a lot of patients since DS surgeons must have extensive training.  There is also Dr. Simper located in SLC, UT.  I traveled over 3,000 miles for my surgery and would've traveled even further.  The DS is that worth it!  I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Original DS-1/07/09- Dr. Simper, SW: 286, LW:170, Post-op HW:194

Hiatal Hernia Repair & Revised DS to Hess Method-1/29/14- Dr. Keshishian, SW:194, CW:176, GW:130ish

PCOS w/ 2 post DS pregnancies!

I have heard he is a "bait and don't switch surgeon" who prefers to do an ERNY rather than DS.

I think there were two people posting on the revision boards in the last year that went in for DS and came out of OR with ERNY.  I'll have to see if I can find those threads.

Hey RainyDay...can you quote me so MWG sees my post--she and I battled about a year ago and she blocked me, but she'll want to see this interesting thread from the Arizona forum if she hasn't already. Thanks!

Nicolle,

Having participated in the original threads myself, perhaps I can shed some truth to the rumors.

1.  He REVISES from prximal Rny to ERny.  Those who don't understand the effects of a "shortened common channel" are referred to DS educational sources to understand possible & probable post-op issues.  "If" a patient then assumes that they are getting a DS then they have assumed inaccurately on their own.  There is a history of ONE patient misunderstanding the name of her procedure which was an ERny.  She was attacked maliciously when she unknowlingly referred to it as a DS.  She's since apologized and admitted to being wrong but people keep digging it up.

2.  He recommends DS as a first surgery for those who have higher BMI's or who are not interested in a Lapband, Proximal Rny or sleeve.  These people get a true DS.

I have referred to my shortened common channel before as being "like a DS".  Some of the DS crowd has been quick to jump in with attacks to prove me wrong.  What's wrong?  A short lower half is a short lower half!!!

I live and learn with the DS Problems group on yahoo.  Those who are years out with their DS very patiently explain that the malabsorption is in fact the same (DS vs ERny or Distal Rny) and unfortunately some of the outcomes from the malabsorption are also the same.

It's an old battle with outdated, inaccurate news.  I suspect your motive is to "help" someone from making a huge mistake.  Good for you, but there's a lote of hype over some old and bad information.

Congrats on your weight loss!  Happy Holidays!
