Post WLS...Slow pulse?? Could Vitamin K help?

Just wondering if some of you have developed a slow pulse post WLS?  Mine runs in the high 50's to low 60's.  Doctors (cardi) couldn't find a reason.  So here is the kicker...I started applying a Vitamin K topical cream on my hands and arms...because my skin bruses so easily (I have thin skin...If I scratch...I bleed)  My pulse goes up to normal after I apply the lotion.  I'm going to try and experiment a few more times...see it this is really something that my body is coming up short.  Is there a test to see if one is coming short of Vitamin K??  I do eat foods rich in Vitamin K...but maybe they aren't getting absorbed...

You didn't have this before right?   You wouldn't want to experiment in raising your pulse, if your 'normal' is the '50 and '60's.   I run high '30's and into the '40's so too much higher drives me just crazy... pound pound pound...  I like it slow.

Was it 30's and 40's pre WLS?  If it gets too slow you may need a pacemaker I think...

Yes, it was slow before too.  I've been tested in and out, but everything appears to be well.. just slow.

Mine was low 50s prior to surgery.  Now it runs high 40's.   That's normal for me.  No need to try to get it to rise.  They said for my activity and as a scuba diver they - the docs. - weren't surprised or concerned about it.

You should be getting a test for your vite levels with your labs.  I don't pretend to know about RNY gut configuration, but depending on that, you may not be absorbing enough K from your foods and/or supplements.  You should be able to ask your primary doc to order a blood test to check your vite levels.

My pulse is slower, but that's not a bad thing. It just means less stress on my heart. At first, it felt too slow, but what I was feeling is it was just slower than I was used to. Mine is around 60 also, and I think that's completely normal.

I've also had sleep studies done before where it dropped to the 40s, which I was told was normal in some sleep stages. What's important too is BP and 02 levels.

Also, slow pulse could be a thyroid problem. Have you gotten that checked?

Most people do not need to supplement with Vitamin K.  It is manufactured by normal bacteria in the gut.  You can have your blood levels checked, though.

Unless you are feeling any symptoms related to low pulse rate (dizziness, etc.), a pulse in the high 50's to low 60's is not worrisome.  Normal range is 60-90.
