I have never ever heard about anyone developing seizures after gastric bypass. I'm 3 years out from mine and never developed any seizures.

Melting Mama has that... you can message her.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I also knew someone where I live. Grand mal seizures. Take care of yourself.

Melting Mama is the only one I can recall who says her seizures were a result of RNY.  I attend 3 support meeting a month.  Never heard of one siezure issue with one patient in almost 6 years of meetings.  I had a pacemaker implanted, and I know one other patient who got one too after their RNY. But sudden wt loss will lower bp, and for some the numbers are too low, hence the pacemaker. DAVE

Seems to me that Beth started a thread asking about other folks who had developed seizures after having WLS.  Beth is Melting Mama's given name.

As others have said, contact her.

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on television.  I don't know if Beth's seizures are a result of RnY or if she had a dormant case of epilepsy that became less dormant after she lost weight.  I just know she has suffered immensely as a result of the seizures.

 Thank you.

At this point it does appear to be something that was discovered as a result of losing the weight, somehow...

I am going in a few weeks for another video EEG series in the hospital to see if we can't find the seizure focus for potential surgery.  I've had enough of this....

Keep us posted.

I have a suspicion that a number of folks have dormant of latent conditions that are masked by weight and the weight loss and resulting hormone overload shake things up. However, I don't think it's true across the board.

Whatever the root cause of your seizures, I hope you are able to get it resolved.

 That's my thinking too.

Particularly now that I seem to seize on a hormone-based schedule.

MM - are you a member at the Coping with Epilepsy forum? I have quite a few friends with epilepsy (of varying types) and it seems a good resource if you ignore the tendency of some of the members to want "natural" cures (and who can't recognize confirmation bias).

I seem to recall one other member who mentioned WLS as a trigger.

catamenial seizure activity is common - damn those hormones, eh? When we're overweight our hormones are frequently out of whack, it wouldn't surprise me at all if weightloss's effects on hormones triggered seizure activity.

in other cases I often wonder I'd the vagus nerve plays a role - I know it can get bungled up in RNY sometimes, and I know that vagus nerve stimulators are given to treat seizures sometimes...

(just random musings on the subject)
