f*** This Up
I want perspective surgery patients and newbies to know that YES you can F*** this up. You have to do the research and do the post surgery work.
Pounds will not melt off just because you want them to. Your diabetes will not go away because you wi**** away. Your bad knees from the extra weight will not all of a sudden stop hurting. Malabsorption RNY, lapband, DS, sleeve, or non surgical methods you need to be committed to do the nutritional and physical work.
If you don't like your doctor try another one. If you don't like your support group, try another one but don't give up. If you have a family member willing to lend a shoulder put your head on it and do the best you can.
Weight loss can be positive but it isnt going to be thrown in your lap. You have to work for it as hard as you did other things in your life that werent handed to you or easy.
Lifelong. Your weight is a life long battle. You have to watch what you eat for the rest of your life. This isnt just a "gimmee". The first 30-40 falls off then you have to use your tool and do the work. If you don't Follow plan or get subservaint to the loss then you will most likely gain the weight back. What a waste of tool, money and time.
You can not take this seriously and end up feeling like a failure. You feel like that now...why spend thousands of dollars or a copay to feel like a failure later?
If your not ready to make the life long commitment your not ready. No shame in honesty. Weight loss surgery is not a fairy tale where the guy of your dreams rides you off into the sunset because you now are lighter than him. Most likely the guy you want will find a new reason not to be with you.
Weigh all of your options and make an informed decision. Don't start with the "woe is me" if major changes don't take place. If your man leaves, skinny people still don't like you or you miss food DEAL WITH IT. PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD WILL HELP YOU IF THEY CAN. Surgery was your life saving choice. Its YOUR body and YOUR surgery. Take responsibility.
Unfortunately the people who need to hear this will never listen. I have been here nearly ten yrs and nothing has changed as far as shock and dismay about regain. It gets annoying after awhile. I work hard to stay at goal, which means I say NO to many things I would like to eat, but can't, so hearing people whine about regain just irks me.
I agree. And they don't just whine and ask for help once. It's often. Usually they ask, then disappear for a few months, and come back and whine again without following any of the advice given. The "victim" mentality drives me insane.

WELL PUT!
Why do people have the surgery in the first place? I have been (almost) 7 years out IN August from my sleeve and I will tell you what. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. More in the beginning, than now, but still! I have lost and kept off over 140 pounds. This is after having 2 children also. I work hard at the gym 3-4 days a week and I try to eat right. Not going to lie, I will splurge and have a couple of hershey kisses, or other carbs. HOWEVER, that means that I am burning it at the gym hard the next day!
WLS isn't for everyone. But it has saved and changed my life in SO MANY ways!
Happy Monday Everyone!

I was told to exercise here. I'm a personal trainer, kickboxing instructor and weight lifter six days a week. I'm only saying that so that veterans who kept weight off aren't judging people with regain the same way all fat people are judged for being fat- "they must not try".
That being said, back to the point- yes, it's work. You have to work hard. Be dedicated. Motivated. You have to want it bad and follow the rules, even more the farther you are from surgery. In the mean time, I hope some sucess stories can be a little more empathetic.
