Is it Okay if I Join Your Group? DS in 11 Days

Hi everyone.  I'm scheduled to have DS on August 9th and kind'a feel all alone out here.  Everything happened so fast! I made my decision about 2 months ago after attending Dr Elariny and Chan's discussion group.  Then started getting all the pre-op tests done as quickly as possible.  BAM!  I'am approved in 2 days and Dr Chan can put me under on the 9th.  My husband doesn't know what to think either. He's lurking about looking a bit stunned by all of this. Regardless, I know WLS is the right thing to do and DS is the right way to do it.  I beat my body and metabolism to a pulp for 30 years trying to stay within military weight standards. When I retired and went off diet pills, my weight shot up like crazy plus 5 comorbids for good measure.  Anyway, you all seem like a great group of folks and very active with the messages.  Just what I need.  Oh, is there an "angel" in the Northern Virginia area who might adopt me?

Welcome! That's awesome that you're getting it so soon. Check out the stickied thread at the top of the front page to find out about getting an angel. You'll find a lot of support here. This board is a wealth of information about all the issues that your doctor doesn't cover, too. Please keep us up to date on your progress. Hi Major! Welcome! Of course you can join us!   You couldn't have picked a better date for your surgery, because that is the one-year anniversary of mine!   It has been a momentous year for me  - I have had no complications, have lost 141 pounds and feel great.   The increase in mobility and energy levels have been the greatest gifts of all, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that shopping for clothes and enjoying the way I look in the mirror aren't a blast too. Please feel free to ask any questions you want - and you are DEFINITELY not alone.   Good luck! Julie

Hi Majormom! I'd love to adopt you and be your angel.  I live in Bristow and I'm having surgery a few days before you.  Mine is scheduled for August 6th.   It sounds like your journey has gone pretty quick so far.  That's really great!   I understand Dr.  Chan does a good job and you should be in good hands.   Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.  I am still preop but I've been working on having the DS for five years now so I could probably answer most questions or direct you to the right people here to get answers. Welcome Majormom! There's a great mix of folks on here - from all stages of DS too! So, lots of people to answer questions.  I'm a newbie too - scheduled for Sept 19th.  Always nice to meet new people.
