A useful trick!

After three years of being banded, you get to know some useful tricks and I thought I would share this one.

Have you ever had an urgent need to PB while in the car and not able to stop? Like as a psassenger on a freeway? I have!! Only two or three times but no plastic bag is ever leak proof enough!!!! And it is a very nasty wait until you can pull up somewhere!

My tip - keep a small Starbucks (or equivalent!!) take away cup with lid in the car. Waterproof, and with tight fitting lid!! And you can spit into it very discreetly!!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Thanks for this post.  I had never thought of this as being a problem.  I am only a couple of weeks out and haven't had a fill yet, so fortunately this has not been an issue for me.  (and I would love if it never was..lol)  But I was under the impression that if PB'ing was going to occur, it would happen while you were eating or at least immediatly after....how long of a period have you gone that you have still done that after a meal? (Just for future planning)

Theoretically, if you take care and eat well, it should never happen!  But for the vast majority of us, it does sometimes.

With me, it is usually, as you say, during or immediately after eating. But on a couple of occasions, I have done something like stopping off at a motorway service station (that may need translating.... freeway rest-stop?????), grabbed a take away coffee and got back in the car while DH was driving! And then gulped too fast!! And PBing into a plastic bag works but then you have to hold it until you stop and they are never leak -prooof   -TMI !!!!

And a poster on the vets board yesterday talked of rushing her early morning coffee, getting in the car to go to work and......!

Oh, Kate,  believe me, if there is something that should not happen with the band, I'll figure out a way to do it...lol     I would love to believe that I am going to be perfect and never break the rules, but I try not to lie to myself too much.
I didn't think about PB'ing happening with liquids either.  I supposed I thought it was something that happened when you ate too fast or did not chew the food up well.
Anyway, thanks for the tip!! It will come in handy I am sure and I will think of you when it does...lol!!
While I have your attention, I wanted to say thank you for all of your helpful posts.  You have given me a great deal of useful information even though I am just now starting to post back.  You are such an inspiration!!  Thank you!!

Teresa, it is surprising to some that it can happen with liquids! They do go straight through more or less - but it is like a funnel, if we drink too fast it backs up a bit. So it is actually quite easy - especially if yoi=u are very thirsty. You take a few big swigs and because there is no delay to chew, you have done the damage before you can stop anything!

Kate, good advice.  After the first time I wound up with a mess in my lap, I began keeping a 'to go' cup in my cup holder.  I also keep an airline barf bag folded up in my purse.

Of course, since I began taking these measures I haven't needed to use them.  But it is always best to be prepared.

Ah - I really must improve my American!! Not a take away cup - a to-go cup!!!!!!

Kate,  I hope you didn't take the 'to go' as critical.

You can call it whatever you want.  We got the picture.  We know we have extra 'junk in our trunk' and you guys have have extra 'loot in your boot'.

I love that we are such a diverse group!

No, no! I am practising! Holiday in USA booked for Fall (notice, I didn't say Autumn, truly bi-lingual) and so am taking note!

The best one for us, makes us fall about laughing is your fanny pack!  To pack is to put something in something and a fanny for us is a vagina!

And we do have junk! Loot is just what burglars steal form hosues or soldiers from war zones.
