Congrats on your A-HA moment! That is absolutely wonderful.

We all have one I think, at some point in this journey. I had one too. Mine was before I asked for the referral, as I'd been toying with the idea of WLS for four years or so. But like one of the other posters pointed out, I had a birth plan. I had a plan for buying my house. I had a career plan. And I needed a plan to get healthy. Why wouldn't I use any and all tools available to me to do that? It would be ludicrous to ignore the statistics and try yet again to lose half of my body weight on my own. That 'diet' had ballooned me to 297 lbs and enough was enough.

I haven't really shopped myself yet very much (I've been subsisting on pre-loved clothing and a few items from a clothing exchange we have in the Ottawa area) and I'm sort of scared to go anywhere BUT Pennington's or Addition-Elle. I'm comfortable in those stores. I KNOW those stores. I've known them since I was a teenager and I'm now in my mid-40s. So after 30 years of a relationship with those stores, I'm not quite sure where to start to forge a relationship with anyone else. What IS my style after all? I've no idea. I'm still toying with that.

But I loved your A-HA moment and I can certainly relate. Congratulations on making a wonderful commitment to getting healthy and focussing on YOU!

Thanks, Jiliana!  I think your response about comfort with the clothing stores underscores a common problem for most of us.  We've spent so long being heavy that even when/if we lose the weight, we will have to deal with some discomfort adjusting to the new opportunities this presents.   It will be both wonderful and a bit daunting all at the same time.

I'm so happy you have come to peace with your decision.  It's so important I think, especially if you have others in your life who are questioning.  Congrats.

This is literally exactly how I feel. I'm scared that after surgery I will mess up the diet and do some serious damage to myself.
