Wound Seperations
Just wondering for those of us lucky ones with Wound Seperations, how long does it take to heal? I have about a 3 inch section in my back that now has necrosis and my doctor is talking about cutting it out and then having to do the healing from the inside out and wet gauze etc.

I had about a 3 inch separation under my right arm last year. It seemed like it took forever to heal but actually it healed in about two months. This was after the surgeon de-breeded it and then it healed rather rapidly. I didn't do any gauze - I just kept it clean and covered. It did require a revision about 10 months later.

I had a few areas of skin necrosis that were removed and had to pack with wet saline gauze. Most of the areas healed by two months but one area at the T section of the anchor cut TT was still not completely closed at three months and my surgeon did a little revision of the skin edges and then closed the wound. You can't tell now by looking at that area that there ever was a problem.
Hang in there, it can take some time to heal.

It is important to realize that typical weight loss surgeries have a component of food restriction and a second component of malabsorption. Last year, I wrote 2 papers that were published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons), to inform Plastic Surgeons to pay close attention to nutritional supplementation of weight loss patients before surgery, during surgery and after surgery. All my patients are started on ProCare MD (especially designed for post-bariatric Patient) 1 month before the surgery and continued till healed. In a new paper that will be published this year, I have shown that the rate of wound complications in my practice has been reduced by 100 percent in my body lift patients after nutritional supplementation. Wound healing is dependent on many factors and vitamins. kristie, I am so sorry you are having trouble. I had a leak w/ WLS surgery so they had to go in a perfectly great 12 inch vertical (open RNY) scar and fix the leak and then put a feed tube in...more to the story but the insicion had to heal from the inside out...the whole insicion!!! I had 3 big brackets holding me together at that point and it was not packed or anything just open. I was almost 400 lbs so that was a big deal. most of it healed w/in 2 months except a couple of holes that had to be packed and then that too another 2 months to heal. It was not fun but I didnt have any problems since w/ the scar.
I just got a scar revision w/ my TT and I am a week out. Every thing looks really good so far. However, the supplements are HUGE!!! i have been taking all sorts of vitamins and minerals and w/o them your skin and body can not heal. Just for overall health, they are good but extra important for when we are trying to heal. Best wishes and just keep breathing and remember what other great things you have going in your life to take the focus off the wound. Be good to yourself!

Just another wonderer here. Had my TT January 15, developed Necrosis had my revision March 6th. My incision has opened up again, about the size of a quarter. Also got an infection that comes with a horrible odor. Started packing the wound today, seems as if this will never end, is there hope for me? This whole experience has been so devestating to me. The odor from my belly is so bad, its so hard for me to even have an appetite.

Went to my appointment today to learn the results from my culture done last week. Seems after my surgery after the drains were removed and I started showering, I was the lucky recipient of some very rare bug, probably found in my very own well water. So Thursday I'm off to infectious disease to get rid of this so called bug, wish me luck!
