Is laxatives and enemas going to be a permanent part of my life post op?
I make sure to drink plenty, but it does happen sometimes. My weapon of choice is coffee, which my doctor approved for me (and thank god, cause I love the stuff!). That keeps things moving, but sometimes, when it doesn't, a small piece of fruit (some pineapple, a few strawberries) will do the trick.
For context, I'm 15 months post-op RNY.
I'm three years out and I have had horrible constipation issues.
I take .5 TBSP Miralax daily, drink 8 cups liquid and I'm fine. I also eat 25-35 grams of fibre a day. You will be able to work more on that the further out you are.
My Dr is fine with me taking the Miralax. I'd be careful about taking too many enemas.

I take a tablespoon of generic Benefiber in my decafe every morning. I also do 1 colace with each calcium dose, and make sure my fluid intake us good. I use Vitron C for my iron supplement... which is carbonyl iron. I eat vegetables or fruit with most meals, and my starches are usually multi grain and high fiber (brown rice, high fiber sandwich rounds, etc).
