Please Educate Me on Calcium

Do they normally run a bone density test?  I'm curious since I've been on a PPI for several years.  Should I ask for one?

My opinion, yes, get one.  If nothing else, you'll have a baseline for the future to see if there are any changes.

My NUT told me 3 calcium chews a day (spread out of course) but then after WLS I had a problem with constipation so the surgeon told me to just take ONE chew a day. My last labs (done in March) my calcium level was within range.

Be careful about assumptions that your calcium levels were within range.  That could simply mean that your body is leaching the calcium from your bones.  A PTH test would help you find this out (if it is high, that means that you are leaching it from the bones).  Alternatively, a DEXA scan might be able to find this out for you too.

Thank you for explaining that.  I can see how your calcium levels would be normal if it was coming from your bones.  Have you ever had a DEXA scan?  What is it like?

I've had a DEXA scan twice.  It's truly a scan - you lay down on a table and they position the scanner over you at different points.  Sort of like when you get an x-ray.  Totally painless.
