No complications for me - I agreed with above... There are risks with any surgery. For me the risks of morbid obesity for the rest of my life were greater than surgery. The risks with bariatric surgery are the same for a routine appendectomy. Your surgeon should provide you with possible complications and percentages in his practice.

My recovery was super easy - I was off pain meds within a few days and I'd say I was back to my normal life within two weeks but the life I've had since surgery has definitely not been my "normal life!"  It's a much, much better life.

I did have a weird complication about 3 months out.  Somehow, something irritated my stomach and my restriction just tanked.  I couldn't eat more than about an ounce without throwing up.  My surgeon prescribed me an antispasmodic which I took for 10 days and he also had me revert my diet so I did liquids for 3 days, pureeds for 3 days, and soft foods for 3 days.  By the end of those 10 days everything was great and I haven't had any problems since.

As far as complications go, this was a super easy one to deal with :)

Both my "complications" weren't really complications at all but known side effects of the surgery....severe reflux and severe hair loss.  Reflux is treated with meds and I just had to wait out the hair loss part.  But it really, really sucked!
