Anyone else have to pay $150 cash to have Psychologist "go over" your medical...

Most people will be super jealous of how easy it was for you to get scheduled.  But there is something to be said about taking the time to get mentally prepared for all of the changes.  You're doing great though!  :-) 

My psych screening was fairly useless.  The therapist I've been seeing before and after surgery has been invaluable though.  

I had a one time only visit with a psychiatrist per my doctors guidelines for clearance. It cost me $350 b/c my insurance didn't cover psychiatric  care.

Also, i really  think a pscyh clearance should be 100% mandatory before surgery. I have a side job working as a RN in an inpatient psych facility and you would be amazed how wls has exacerbated and created new problems for people who had wls. Not everyone is "mentally" fit for such a dramatic change in such a short period of time.

I totally agree that anyone having bariatric surgery should have a psych evaluation but that being said I think it's ridiculous to charge $150 to read two years of medical records that I brought to his office. Then he wants me to come to another visit to have him go over his recommendations. I refused to see him again. I said to just send the recommendation onto the Surgeons office. I thought that was just another way to get more money from me.

This reeks of a scam to me. When I was going to have VSG self-pay back in 2012, I paid $1000 out-of-pocket for my psych eval, but that was because my insurance covered none of it. Now that I'm heading towards an RNY that my new insurance WILL pay for, the psych eval (and everything else) was covered at my plan's typical 80%.
