Embarking on weight lifting

Jun 28, 2010

150     Yikes again! Scrolling down just a little in my blog here I come across 138, and I am at 150 right now! Wow. I have got to get myself back on track here with my health. That is what it ultimately boils down to. I want to be healthy, fit and active. I want my body to have the nutrients it needs to function properly, I want my muscles to be strong and be burning as many calories as they can by just doing there every day things, I want to have a lot of energy.

I picked up a copy of The New Rules of Lifting at the library and I have read it a few times, some parts many times, made my own workout logs and got a clip board. I practiced the exercises at home perfecting my form. I ran through the workout in my mind multiple times. I put it off for a month and finally went today. I was so nervous but I put on my headphones and tuned everyone else out. I was really thankful that when it was time to do the pushups and the swiss ball crunches that no one was over in that area.

They do have a book specifically for Women but my library didn't have a copy of that. I did the Break In program workout A. It was quick, efficient and I can feel my muscles tingling all over. It only took half an hour or so. I am following it up with a Smart Ones chicken parmesan, 26g protein. I am drinking a tall SF Caramel latte and one of those new gatorade G3 recovery protein drinks 16g of protein and for a treat later I can enjoy some of my protein ice cream I made a few days ago. Even if you have no interest in lifting weights the book is a really good read. It is based on a lot of recent scientific data and his own experience of lifting for many many years. Everything just makes so much sense. It pretty much echoes what my great Dr Sund, my bariatrician has been telling me for a couple of years now as to keys to long term success and weight maintance. Protein, and muscle.

She's been telling me it, and the book gave me more of the 'why' it works. Now I am going to implement! My goal is to get as much protein in as possible, the book recommends a gram of protein for every pound of body weight per day. So, I am going to attempt to get in 150g of protein in a day and as my weight drops the number of g/day can drop as well.

I have my vitamins around the house in candy dishes, that makes them handy and better than having candy in them.

Events I am looking forward to looking and feeling my best at:
Within the next 4 months we'll be doing another photo shoot with our photographer.
I am 5 months away from my 3 year surgiversary.
I am 6 months away from hopefully a trip to Cozumel with my dear husband. (I still absolutely LOVE being married)
