Went home yesterday

Jun 16, 2015

Ugh, I couldn't wait to get home.  I wanted out of the hospital.  I felt great, I was doing well, I wanted my own food choices and to be able to add protein to my foods.  I got released last night and came home and immediately took a hot shower.  I finally felt human again.  It was amazing.  I stepped on the scale and was back up to 336, but they pumped me full of fluids and surgery makes you swell, so I expected that.

Getting in bed was a bit tough, and I had to rearrange pillows a lot, which my poor husband had to get up and help with a lot.  I was doing well, though, and got comfy, and was able to fall asleep quickly.

At 1am I woke up with a stiff body and a bad headache.  I know from the other night this means my blood sugar had dropped.  It was around the same time as well.  I got up to pee and my husband got up to get me some juice.  I drank an ounce of apple juice and my headache and stiffness was gone within 5 minutes.  Bingo, now I know.  At night for some reason until my pancreas figures it out, my blood sugar is going to drop.  I took my pain meds and drank a bit more water, then went to sleep.

At 5am I woke up from my pain meds wearing off but I thought "Its not that bad, and my husband gets up at 6am, I'll just wait."  So I went back to sleep.  My husband woke me at 6:30, and I was sobbing.  Sobbing in my sleep.  The pain was unbearable.  I even felt my stomach to see if I was bleeding or something.  I did a mental inventory and it was just intense pain from inside my stomach.  I composed myself and he helped me take my pain meds.  I drank a little warm tea after to wash out the taste, and he helped me lay back into bed with all my pillows.  Within moments I felt normal again.  I am NOT going to miss a scheduled pain dosage again.

Today I have planned 1) nothing  2) drinking clear fluids   3) instructing my mother on a few things to do   4) more nothing   5) sleep.  I think that is pretty good.

Physical update:  Weight is back down to 333 this morning.  My stomach is severely bruised on the left side and the skin tissue is very swollen and multicolored.  My whole stomach is still bloated as if I was 6 months pregnant again (Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!).  My incisions are glued shut, along with steri strips across them.  They feel great!  All the pain is internal.  Every once in a while I have an uncomfortable time with whatever I have swallowed.  And I get cramps and twinges that really catch me off guard.  Anyone reading this, let me know if this is normal.  This sort of stuff seems to happen after I move a lot and finally settle down.  Not when I am eating.  I have some referred shoulder pain, and gas pains are still awful.
