Surgeon Testimonial

Michael Nowak
Dr Nowak is awesome. I liked him from the first time I met him. He took all the time needed to answer any questions I might have. He was honest about his limitations. He would not do laproscopic surgery on me because my BMI was over 50. He offered to refer me to another surgeon who would do it laproscopically. He very thoroughly addressed the risks of surgery.rnrnHe saw me at 10 days post op, 6 weeks post op and will see me again at 3 months post op. He emphasizes overall health not pounds lost. rnrnBecause my assessment is 100% positive, you may assume that it is suspect, but I have nothing negative to say about Dr Nowak.

3 weeks Post-op
on September 17, 2007 7:10 pm
Surgery went great. Didn't like the hospital much, but the nurses were nice. I've been off pain medication since before I left the hospital. So far so good on eating. Made it through the liquid stage and am now on pureed. I called the surgeon's office today to ask if I could go back to work early -- like next week. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow.

I came out of the hospital weighing 10 lbs more than when I went in. Lost all of that and another 17 lbs. So, I'm down 77 lbs total. My face is looking so small! I measured my hips last night and I've lost 4 inches there. That's just since the surgery. I wouldn't get anywhere near a tape measure in the beginning!

I'm still very excited about this whole adventure. It will be difficult when I start back to work. Mainly the planning for meals and snacks. I still have not been able to get all the water in I am supposed to. But I AM getting in my protein! YAY!

9 days and counting
on August 19, 2007 2:08 pm
Haven't exactly kept up with the blogging. Surgery is in 9 days. I'm ready. I know that Sharon is terrified, but she will be fine once she knows I'm ok. Doug is coming up next weekend. That was really sweet of him to offer. Not sure what all I will need his help for, but I guess I will be finding out.

Impatiently waiting
on April 26, 2007 3:18 pm
September seems so far away.  Now that I have definitely decided to go through with this surgery, I want it to be here NOW!  I'm trying to remember that all the things that have to be done first will serve to teach me how to eat, live and cope after surgery.

My Story

Hmmm. where to start. Growing up I was always the "skinny little sister" and would make fun of my older sister for being "fat". All that began to change in my late 20's. I can't blame it on the birth of two chldren because after my second one, I was 125 lbs. My husband and I sure liked to eat! As most SMO people, my life became a series of yo yo dieting and frustration. I finally decided that I would not try any more. I like me and decided that if people didn't like the way I look, that was too bad.

Then as age crept up, so did the co-morbidities. I have had both knees replaced, have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and recently diagnosed with diabetes. I have GERD and asthma that landed me in the hospital in Dec. It finally dawned on me that everything that is wrong with me would be improved if I could get the weight off. So, I began my journey to see if this surgery is for me.
