each day a little more

Aug 06, 2010

I've been keeping a log of my exercise in conjunction to my food log.  I've always been defeated at the gym.  I'd go whole hog and end up injuring myself.  This most recent go around I was advised to go slow, to take it literally, one minute at a time.  And so that what I've been doing.

At first I was very self conscious spending 15 min at the gym total.  My body protested and my joints screamed.  But I got on the recumbent bike (sp?) and petaled slow and stead.  I'd stop when I got a cramp or when my feet went numb.  Sure I got some funny looks from the avid runners behind me, I just reminded myself I had to start some place.  That first day I did 10 minutes with no tension and had to stop 4 times and did 1mi total.  I walked away humbled, trying to be as invisible as possible as I exited the gym.

But I logged my time and slowly I've been adding to it.  I've even added tension, today I did 3.8 miles in 17min with a tension ranging 6-7.  Heck I've even gotten on the elliptical, today I did 10 minutes with no break.  Just slow and stead.  So slow in fact the machine thought I was pausing a couple of times.  (chuckle)  Oh well a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step and I will persevere.
