2 Year Surgiversary
Jul 03, 2011
When people ask what I lost, I always say "diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol". STILL no diabetes and no high blood pressure and no high cholesterol. I had begun to have diabetic retinopathy in one of my eyes and that is all over now. I had a bounce-back gain of about 5 pounds and I keep thinking I need to work harder to get those 5 off...but somehow I don't get around to it. I can eat more variety now and I have to be careful not to overeat. I still don't eat any flour or rice or sugar, and am still lactose intolerant - I don't guess that will change. I do occasionally have ice cream and it is almost always a bad idea...someday I will learn not to do that! I can tolerate corn and potatoes though. My work has become really busy so I am not exercising at the moment and I really miss that! I don't want to get out of shape again.
I am still vigilant about my vitamins and blood work, and always will be. I take more than my surgeon recommends, and I read my own labs to make sure there are no down-ward trends. I think that with malabsoption, it is best to stay on top of the numbers, because once you are out of range it is very difficult to get back in range.
I still have my protein shake almost every morning for breakfast. My surgeon says I don't need to do that but I find that I feel better. My best new find is Coromega orange flavored super absorbable Omega 3 oils. My brain works better when I take it, I can actually tell the difference. And it does not taste nasty! And I still have my wonderful greek yogurt on a daily basis. I love Fage the best and I mix it with fresh fruit and some sugar free sweetener.
I am healthier than I ever thought I could be. Life is good.
