Surgeon Testimonial

William O'Malley, M.D.
It's discouraging that the wait is so long, but Dr. O'Malley is the best around. He is very thorough and professional, so it is worth the wait. My consultation with him was about 45 minutes in the waiting room, and about 3 minutes with him. He asked me a few questions, and checked me over. I had no questions because I have been researching this for almost a year - and he explained everything again in the group meeting. From risks, to how the procedure is done, to how you succeed or fail - nothing is left unsaid. Diane at the office has also been very knowledgeable, professional and thorough. I feel very confident with my choice of surgeons.

Born 10/25/74, married in '91 we have 2 amazing boys. Struggled w/weight my whole life & had Gastric Bypass 8/19/03 weighing in at 278 lbs.I lost 150 pounds. I am now healthy, happy & maintaining my weight loss.

But wait, WLS alone is NOT going to solve weight issues for life.  You've got to decide to change your lifestyle.

I eat healthy.Period.Lean Protein & vegetables,nuts,beans;good carbs like whole wheat,oats & fruit.I allow myself a reward once a week.

I exercise 5 - 7 days a week. This is a must if you want this to last forever.

We've got to change the way we think, the way we live.  And set a good example for our children and those around us.

Just know this, that our journey never ends, we just move from one phase to the next.  Best wishes to you, wherever you may be on this journey.

Where are you - or will you be - 9 + years later?
on October 31, 2012 5:31 am

Hopefully healthy, strong and fit!  But ya know what - I'm going to be brutally honest with you here.  Any surgery is NOT going to be the end-all solution to weight struggles.  I get a lot of messages and questions about how to lose all the weight, how to keep it off etc.  The truth is - sure surgery may help you drop some weight.  But the other truth is - it is as temporary as a 'diet' or 'pill' or anything else.  It is as limited as what YOU put into it.  If you do not make the decision and commitment to completely change your life, your habits, your way of eating, exercising, LIVING - then truth is, you will not reach your goal weight and you will certainly not stay there.  Have I mastered or perfected this healthy lifestyle?  Heck no!  But I eat extremely clean at least 80% of the time and exercise 6 times a week.  I have also become a certified fitness instructor and health and fitness coach to help others beat this constant battle.  So is that what you have to do?  Nope.  You have to do what works for you.  You've just got to realize that if you don't eat healthy on a regular basis and exercise - you're not going to be healthy on a regular basis or fit.  But the good news is - You Can do it.  You're here because you do not want to be overweight or obese, and risk all of the diseases and health issues that are directly related to being overweight.  You can be healthy, fit and in shape.  Just decide now that you're in it for life and don't ever look back.  You got this.

My Story

Those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained.

My weight loss journal is now in my blog section. I get a lot of emails with
questions and I have no problem answering them, but most of the answers
can be found in my journal so please feel free to read through it.
I had Lap RNY 8/19/03, started out at 278 and currently maintain a weight of @125 depending on the day. :) I had a TT 3/7/05 and that is the only PS
that I have had done. I live a pretty normal life now, and strive each day to eat healthy and I exercise daily to continue to take full advantage of this tool,
and this wonderful opportunity that I've been given. The surgery alone is not a fix-all. It is up to you what you do with it.
Best wishes to all of you on this journey, it's not always an easy road,
but it's definitely worth the ride.
