Hurry up and wait!

I am 3 weeks and 4 days away from surgery. I actually started this process in March 2009 with a different Doctor. They were not yet a center of excellence but kept telling me it was going to be next month. Well next month turned in 11 months and when I called them in Jan 2010 they said another six months! I finally was willing to leave them and go to somewhere else. So I called the SWLP at EMMC in Bangor, Maine. I Met in red binder group on March 16 and was very impressed with their program. Of course this is a process so after 6 months of testing and meetings I finally have my date. My surgery is scheduled on Sept 15 2010. 7 months and 1 day after the first meeting not bad. My starting weight was 269.2 lbs. I have worked hard during this time and have lost about 50 pounds and several sizes. Although I have several disabilities I have been exercising and walking, doesn't sound like much but I am up to 2 miles. I never imagined that before surgery. My next hurdle is the two week liquid diet, I know I can do it. I have been asking my friends and supporters to each take a day and join me in a liquid fast as a means of supporting me with my journey.  I am surprised how many are willing to do it.

My husband and children are very supportive of my decision. My daughters have already taken notice of how well I am doing and are now working out  "they don't want mom being smaller than them"

It didn't surprise me when some of those who know I am doing this started in with the horror stories. I took the time to inform them and to let them know it is a safe procedure.
