wow! What a day, but I have a surgery day! :)

Mar 25, 2010

This morning, my day started at 7:00 a.m., woke up, took a shower, got ready, remembered that I couldn't have anything to eat or drink..ugh...oh well, its part of the journey, right?  So my hubby and I head out to the hospital about 8:45, get to the office and start the process, we meet with Ronda, she informs us of all the rules of the "pouch," gives me my personal card that says I'm a GBP Patient, gives me pamphlet where I can order a pretty little bracelet, goes over the surgery a bit, AND GIVES ME WATER!!!! My mouth was so stinkin dry, I was so thirsty and so hungry.  Anyhow, we went over quite a bit of stuff, then it was off to see the Dietician, Jennifer, really sweet, she went over how important my lifestyle would be and how important it is to get my protein in, talked about taking baby steps, liquids, purees, soft foods, then regular foods, etc....we talked about vitamins and all that good stuff.  Very informative, for me anyway, lol..I looked over and found my husband falling asleep...lol..that was funny. I think he hasn't been feeling well and he took the day off from work to be with me the entire day and I think he was just worn out. At least he was there!  After seeing Jennifer, we go on to Dr. Hachem's office, pay our $35 co pay and go back to a room to wait for him to come see me, I'm still hungry at this point! So then he walks in...I tell you what, THE MAN SMELLS AMAZING AND HE'S SO GOOD LOOKING!!! I just had to tell him he smelled so good...lol....yes, with my husband in the same room..ha ha ha...Hey, at least I did it in front of him, right? We joke about it, no biggie.  Anyway, he explained everything about the surgery, showed me the diagram, asked general questions, was very, very informative about the surgery and made sure that we understood what was going to happen.  With all that said, we went to see Chris, who would then schedule my EGD and schedule my surgery.

Sitting in her office, I was a little stunned, because I couldn't believe that this was actually going to happen, its really going to happen, I signed a million papers, not literally, but it felt like it and then she gave me my scheduled appointments and then gave me a goodie bag with some instructions on what to do the night before my EGD and the day before my surgery.  So, my Surgery Day will be April 28, 2010, 10 days after my 37th birthday, what a gift!  I'm happy! What better gift than to be given another chance to live a healthier lifestyle? Awesome!

By this time, Rob (my hubby) is starving, as I am too...except my day's not over with, I still have to go have an EKG, Upper GI, Chest & Abdomen X Ray, Labs drawn, Go see cardio pulminary, Ultra sound of my heart..wow!  I decide to tell him to go on ahead and do his running around and go get something to eat, he felt bad, bless his heart, but I knew he was really hungry.  Everything went well, except for the fact that around the time I'm doing this chest x ray and then start the Upper GI stuff, and drink that nasty stuff, I feel so hungry, feel so nauseated, and feel like I could vomit and like I could go to sleep.  This has been quite the day, so about 3:30 ish, its all over with, I can now go get me something to eat and go flush this nasty stuff out of my system, by drinking water, of course and go get some food!  What a trooper I was, that's what I'm thinking! This is all in the name of being given a 2nd shot at a healthy life! For that I am grateful!

My hubby, well, I couldn't have asked for a better husband, he so supportive, was with me through it all, even if he left to run errands, and was a trooper himself.  Now he's taking a nap, which is what I would like to be doing, but for some reason, I can't, I'm that tired.

All in all, quite the experience and the journey has begun.  God Bless you all and have a wonderful evening!
