My Journey Begins
Sep 17, 2010
This is my first blog and this is the beginning of my journey into weight loss surgery. I attended a seminar last night put on by a local surgeon. He told us about two surgical options, gastric bypass and laparascopic banding. At this point I am still doing more research to see if 1) this is right for me and 2) which one would be better for me. At this point I am leaning toward gastric bypass. I have some concerns about surgery, namely that it's permanent. I do enjoy my food but I think what I enjoy most is that feeling of fullness. It's like a hug from the inside. With a "pouch" that fills more quickly maybe that "hug" will still be there but with less food intake. I also struggle with feelings that I should be able to do this on my own, or with God's help and much prayer, and I struggle with feelings of failure because I just can't do it. I don't like to exercise, and being recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my left hip I find that the types of exercises recommended by my doctor are not practical for me. I will also be going to a series of arthritis seminars beginning next week to find out how to deal with that. Other than the arthritis, though, I am pretty healthy. As someone once said, "I'm in great shape for the shape I'm in." Of course, the shape I'm in is lumpy and puffy. LOL! Thanks for reading this. I hope to be able to update as I continue in my learning journey, and then when I've made my decision on how to move forward.
