Heart Murmur?

Jan 18, 2012

Soooo, I started my two week diet today...YES!!!!  Fortunately, since my pre-op diet is meat, cheese, green veggies, and eggs, I'm good.  I think I've gotten my Tasmanian Devil phase over with...I'm only wanting to eat things that are in the plan, which makes this nice...no hardship yet :-)

I went to get some of my pre-op stuff done.  Turns out there is quite a bit of pre-op at Kaiser (which I'm grateful for, don't want anything unexpected going on while I'm on that table)....So:

I went in to have my pre-up pulmanology clearance done...check.

I went in to have my cardiology clearance done...check?
-The physicians assistant comes in, tells me everything looks good, sounds good, the doc will just come in and have a listen.  He pretty much gives me the everything looks and sounds good for surgery speech, says we don't need to do any testing beyond the EKG that was done, then says let me just listen....then he says he hears a little bit of a clicking, which indicates a murmur...then he says that it's nothing to worry about, because about 20% of the population has them...but just to be sure, we're going to do an echo.  So I went and paid $25 more dollars ($75 total for the day) for that test.  It was a long day....but I'm not complaining.

Over the next 2 weeks, I have to get my upper GI x-ray done, go get surgical pre-op clearance at my surgeons office, an hour later go get surgical preop clearance from the hospital...I also have a telephone clearance appointment that I have to do.

Then surgery on 2/1.  Still encouraged!
