Two really dumb moves

Sep 03, 2010

I had one bit of good news today, I am now the weight I recorded (in my nightgown) only this was in my clothes and with my walking shoes on! Whoo Eee! I will try to get a recorded one in my nightie in the morning.

Now to the dumb news.
First was a stupid overeating move.
Yesterday I ate a greek yogurt before I left to go to a seminar at my surgeons office. I didn't have time to eat an early dinner. By the time I got out I was hungry, but had to stop at Sams. By the time I got done there I was famished! Since I had gotten a new package of Pure protein bars I ate one rather quickly as I was driving, so I was a little uncomfortable and quite full. I had fixed Chicken Cordon Bleau for dinner so when I got home I was adamant that I was going to have some. I got home less than 35 min. after the bar, and proceeded to dish up a portion. And I ate it. I was really uncomfortable then. Then to add to the stupidity of compulsion, I was up for a couple of hours then got ready for bed. Except that I was craving something sweet. Soooo...... idiot that I am I got one of the sweeter bars out and was going to just eat a piece to satisfy. Ha! Not me! No, I ended up eating the whole thing and then went to bed extremely uncomfortable.

This morning I drank my 2 cups of coffee then got ready to take my walk with the dog. Since I have a tendency to get sidetracked after I get home and forget breakfast, I sometimes grab a protein bar and eat it while I walk. No problem, usually works well and holds me till lunch. But, today I hurt after I ate it. Now I am worried that I have created a slip of my band. I went back to liquids for the day, hoping my pouch is just pissed off at me or my band (Sybil) is just trying to teach me a lesson. My belly still seems a little tender. We'll see about tomorrow. I pray that I didn't hurt anything, not that it wouldn't be my own fault.

Dumb move number two.
I jumped on my beloved bike about 3 different times today to run an errand. This afternoon I decided to return some books to the library, which is just a block away. As I got into the parking lot I made a wide turn so I would be parked to head back out. I was careless and didn't come to a full stop before dismounting. That is something I know I should not do due to being not very coordinated and not too swift on balance yet. It has only been 40 years, after all. Also, the lot is on a slope so I was on the low side for getting off, and I didn't get my foot on the pavement before I started to swing off. OOPs! Of course I fell. I am a known klutz.

Well, even though I knew I needed to get a helmet last week when I bought the bike, I didn't. So, as I fell my head hit the concrete with a real loud crack. I saw stars. I lay there feeling pretty woozy but since there was no one to see or hear me call out I got up slowly, walked inside and called my hubby to come get me. At least I was smart enough to not attempt to ride home. I could just see me passing out in front of a car.

I've watched my self closely, my hubby did too, (former EMT), as did the daughter that was here (current EMT) and our son (former medical first responder). No neuro deficits, pupils equal and reactive, no nausea or vomiting, no double vision, GCS 15, nothing except a huge goose egg and one hell of a headache. I'm sure I have a mild concussion, (my third) but if nothing changes over the next few days I won't get excited.

Great, I have dealt with too many traumatic brain injuries and know how important helmets are no matter the hat head or silly look on an old granny. yet do I properly outfit myself? Nope, duh! I had just been thinking I would need to get one since the school buses for the elementary school in our neighborhood will be out and people tend to watch them while driving and not see idiots on bikes. Yep yep yep..... ah well, famous last words.

So, if I haven't ruined my band or lost too many brain cells I will get that fantastic chicken (it was excellent) posted within a few days.

If anyone can learn from my stupidity that's fine. If you just need to                I guess I can understand, too. This is why every time I want to use a tool or do anything even slightly iffy my DH says "No, you'll put your eye out". Smart .......
