Today is 11/17, and it was over a week ago that I had my surgery. Yesterday, I went for my 1 week post-op appt, the staples were removed from 6 sites, and the drain was removed as well. Getting the staples out were no problem, but I found the drain to be very painful! I was advanced from a full liquid diet to a pureed diet, which I was very excited about.
Today, I realized that while chicken is chicken, pureed chicken is very much like dog food!! Ugh! I mixed some with cheddar cheese soup & loved it, but apparently my system has decided that I will now be full blown lactose intolerant - rather than just borderline as I was pre-op. So now I sit here almost midnight being serenaded by my intestinal orchestra. Joy.
Some other things I have discovered post-op:
- cold drinks make my stomach hurt;
- I feel thirsty all the time;
- I miss having bowel movements that have some consistency to them;
- I am shocked at how quickly I became sick of chocolaty protein drinks;
Now I am bracing myself for 4 weeks on a pureed diet - I am having a hard time getting excited about this advancement. I thought I would be so relieved to be off of fluids & onto a different consistency of food - but pureed food: still more liquid that chewable. Disappointed, but still ready to do everything I have to in order to make this the best first day of the rest of my life!!
