Today is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Best of luck man. Next summer we can jog along the beach! Let me know if you need an exercise partner anytime, even winter, I have a pair of http://www.yaktrax.c om. They're great for walking GR and probably Holland sidewalks in the winter.

Hello......and thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.  I am pretty much just like everyone else here on OH.  I have been overweight since the age of 10 and have steadily put on weight over the years.  I am 41 years old and I live in Holland, Michigan.  I work full-time and go to college part-time for Accounting.  I will graduate in May '09.  I have one son, who is 20, who lives in Lafayette, Indiana, who is interested in dental school.  Wow....lol.....where did that come from???  I hope that he continues to follow this dream as I will need more dental work as I get older...LOL  just kidding

WOW!!!!  It finally happened.  It is still so sureal...like it hasn't happened
Everything went very well surgically and I was up and walking within a couple hours of getting to my room as I'm sure all I wanted to do was
I'm glad I don't remember that too much as I'm sure it was painful.  The prep the night before went better than expected lol.   I feel that I am so blessed by all the support from everyone in the chatroom and at OH.  You guys really help more than you know!!!!

My Story

In my 30's, I gained the majority of my weight through overeating ( I am a compulsive overeater).  As we compulsive overeaters know, for a variety of reasons.  I was working management jobs that kept me at work 12-14 hours a day so obviously the last thing on my mind was to come home and cook a piece of chicken and some broccoli..lol  But, in retrospect, I really wish I would have, as I probably would not be in this situation that I am in now.  I heard an interesting stat the other day from my surgeon, and following that from other sources, that 90-95% of severly obese patients are more likely to fail at traditional weight loss attempts, including medically supervised diets.  The reason being is that a person, such as myself, are so far beyond the recover point that this is why it won't work.  Even my surgeon commented that "you sure do know how to lose weight."  Losing the weight was never the issue for me, but there was always a point in the weight loss, usually 100-115 lbs., that something would change in me and slowly I would gain the weight back and then some.
