Road Block....
Jun 24, 2011
Ok so finally got my HMO plan under medicaid, set up all my appts including psych, nutrition, cardio, pulm, 1st visit with surgeon, etc. I am traveling to NY in July to attend these appointments and hopefully can have my surgery in late august during school break. I called this insurance company about requirements only to find out that a 6mos supervised diet is required, which I won't be able to complete away at school. So I called up medicaid and got a list of insurance plans available to me. I called them up and found that healthfirst does not have this requirement and if I switch insurances it will be effective August 1st. Luckily the surgeon and most of the doctors I am seeing take healthfirst so I shouldn't have a problem transitioning. The only problem as per the rep may be that if I submit for surgery and some of the doctors I saw are not part of their plan they may not approve me. That is a risk I guess I will have to take and pray that they don't ask me to do 3mos or 6mos of a supervised diet. He said it is evaluated on a case by case basis and I won't know until the doctor submits for approval....ugh. I hope this works out because I really want to have this surgery soon.
