3 weeks post-op

Mar 17, 2013

Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks out from surgery. My thoughts:

This has been harder than I thought. The recoup time has been longer. I honestly figured that I would be feeling myself again in a couple weeks, but not so much. I still hurt like crazy (muscular) at the end of the day if i do much. I still get weird cramps on occasion, and I still feel best if a get a late afternoon nap.

Just last night I finally hit the point where I can comfortably sleep on my side without feeling like the fat on my stomach is stretching everything inside. That is good news!

I am finally to the point where I am getting hungry through the day. Took me a bit longer than 2 weeks to get to that point. It also took awhile for me to recognize that the feelings I was having were indeed hunger. So many internal owwies and cramps that it is hard to tell.

Bowels seem to be getting under control. I am now off the enemas (hooray!) and the MOM (also hooray) and things seem to be moving through with the colace only. I hate that stuff more than anything, but I will continue for a couple months to make sure I NEVER get an impacted bowel again. Taking 1tsp in the a.m. and 1tsp in the evening.

It's been mentally tough trying to learn how this new body works. I feel very out of touch with my own body, and I was not prepared for that challenge.

Foods that work well for me: Eggbeaters with 1/2 piece cheese (my morning routine now). Tuna (1/2 can). Refried beans. Peanut butter. Popsicles.

I admit that I miss my caffeine free diet dr. pepper so SOOOO much. Ice cream? Nope. Fries? Not really. But I want soda so much it is driving me nuts. In general, I just want to be able to drink a normal swig of something.

Overall, doing well, though. 17+ pounds down and you can see it around my middle in in my face. Last sunday I put on shoes that had been tight across the top and a ring I have not worn in some time. Pretty fun stuff.
