Surgeon Testimonial

Emma Patterson, M.D.
Dr. Patterson is very professional! My examination took about two hours. She went over my medical records, gave me the protein diet, and explained the risks and benefits of all the surgeries. So far, my only complaint is the wait--I waited 4 months for my consultation and now I wait for the office to ask for approval, then I will wait for a surgery date, and then wait for the surgery. I've been waiting my whole life for this, I guess a few more months won't hurt!8/15/02--I had my 16 weeks appt. on Tuesday--went great! Dr. Patterson is a superb surgeon, I have absolutely no complaints. I have a great deal of respect for her and her fellow/intern/in residency guy, Dr. O'Keefe. It's amazing to me how polite and kind these physicians are, especially since I had such a weight issue. I'm very pleased!

Metabolic Disorder
on November 26, 2008 3:05 pm
After extensive testing over the past few months, I have been diagnosed with a metabolic disorder. I do not burn calories like I should, I gain weight like I should not. I cannot take the medication (ephedrine) my internist wants me to take as I am a BF momma right now.

I hate looking in the mirror, I feel disgusting and ugly.

Appointment tomorrow
on July 2, 2008 4:46 pm
Dr. Patterson's office called me yesterday, they said we have an opening for a f/u and you need one. So, I go in tomorrow at 11:30 for a f/u. I'm going to ask about my options for jump starting the losing again. I'm going to ask about Stomafix, too.

Crazy results!
on April 17, 2008 8:11 am
Over the past 2-3 weeks, my scale has told me that I've gained 12lbs. Well, yesterday, I stepped on the hideous creature and she registered a 10lb weight loss!

I don't know if I should laugh or  cry!

An additional 14lb pound loss will bring me to what I weighed before my first pregnancy in 2004. 13 pounds down from there and I'll be at my all-time lowest adult weight.

Off to a good start.

I've already taken my first round of vits today, and just finished a protein shake. When the boys are done with breakfast, we're off to the gym--today is cardio day for me.

I'm getting there!!!

I had a good workout today! I walked a mile around the indoor track and used the bike for 35 minutes--L5 (Cascades), HR of 155 ish.  I did the weights, too.

My Story

I had gastric bypass (RNY) in 2002 after struggling with my weight my entire life. I lost fast and furious!!! I never reached my goal but I looked and felt so much better! My lowest weight was 250! I was a size 18 (some 14s) coming from a size 34 or so.

Since 2004, I have had two babies--large baby boys! My first son was 8lbs 9 oz.. With that pregnancy, I gained 63 lbs! I lost 45-50 of it two weeks after having him. I felt really good and was hoping to lose my excess weight. I did not.

In 2006, I became pregnant with my second son. He was born in July 2007 and was a whopping 9lbs 6 oz. I gained next to nothing but was bigger after I had him. I felt awful after delivery and didn't feel like myself until he was 3 months old.

He is almost 9 months old now and I'm fatter than ever! I joined a gym 7 weeks ago and I work out 5 days per week, one hour of cardio each day and two weight training sessions per week. Maybe I don't eat as good as I think-I'm open for suggestions.

I feel bad even coming here because I really haven't been a member of this community for years. I really need the support now, from the people who know what I am going through and what types of struggles WLS patients face each day.

Thanks!
