Surgeon TestimonialDaniel Hoeltgen, M.D.My first impression was great! He was very informative, and didn't rush me out of the consult. My impression of Dr. Hoeltgen has not changed, I still think he is a wonderful surgeon, however, his office staff is HORRIBLE! Not all of them, but most. Nancy, who I spoke with in the approval process, was great, but since surgery, the front desk staff has been nothing but nasty! I no longer feel comfortable stepping foot into that office.

Been a LONG time! on March 19, 2009 3:02 pm
So, it's been a while since I last updated!
Shortly before my 5 month, I found out that baby #4 was on the way! We were VERY, VERY shocked considering I was told last year that my chances of conceiving again without IVF were slim to none. I was scared about being pregnant so soon after surgery, but I was also excited about adding another baby to our family.
Since finding out I was pregnant, I stopped obesessing about the scale going down, and was actually a little nervous to see it continue to go down the first few months! I was pretty sick in the first few months, and knew the pregnancy was definitely different from my pregnancies with the boys, but thought it was all just related to the surgery.
Well, we found out last month that we are expecting our first baby girl!!!! We are all super excited, and now my hubby is talking about having a 5th to try to give her a sister! lol
So.... All is well with me, and the baby is doing great! I can't wait to get back to the weight loss after she is born in June!!

Monthly Goal Met!! on October 16, 2008 7:08 am
Every month I have been setting a goal for myself to hit by the 28th of each month. Last month my goal was to be down 75 pounds by my 4 month, and I was down 74. Soooooo close!
This month I wanted to be down 90 pounds for my 5 month. I stepped on the scale this morning, 12 days before my goal date, and I am down 90 pounds!!! YAY!!
I would LOVE to be down a total of 100 by my 5 month, so I have 12 days to possibly lose 10 pounds. I am not officially setting this as a goal for myself, I'll just consider it as a bonus. We are taking the boys to CoCo Key this weekend, so maybe all the swimming and fun can help me.
78 more pounds to go! I can't believe I am a little over half way there!!!!
Here is my monthly stats:
5/28/08: 318 (surgery date)
6/28/08: 288 -30 total: -30
7/28/08: 266 -22 total: -52
8/28/08: 256 -10 total: -62
9/28/08: 244 -12 total: -74

HALF WAY THERE!!! on October 9, 2008 5:18 am
I NEVER imagined I would be posting this a little less than 4.5 months post-op!!! My weight loss has actually picked back up lately, I am pretty sure it has to do with the fact that I am making sure I get in all my fluids, and I have been getting in between 70-90 grams of protein, and I have also been out walking a LOT since we got the puppy. Whatever it is, it's working, so I am happy with that! lol
I have been setting mini monthly goals for myself, and I am currently only 5 pounds away from my 90 pound weight loss goal at 5 months! I thought about upping my goal, but decided to keep it as is, and anything extra is just an added bonus.
My friend (who is dieting) and I are making a plan if we both hit our goals for the month, we are going to go out shopping for new jeans, and get pedicures. I know I will hit mine, so I am more than ready to make plans. I told her I can just go shopping for jeans in her closet though. Funny how I am taking everyone else's "fat" clothes, and I am thrilled about it! lol
When Old Navy had their jeans sale, I went and bought 3 pairs, a 20, and 18, and a 16. The 20 was a little tight on me at that point, now they are too big, and I am down to the 16! I am SO glad I did that instead of buying all in my size at the time, I just wish I also would have bought the 14, and the 12
Oh, one more exciting little thing before I end this post.....
I went to parent teacher conferences last night, and when I got there, they were selling the Wildcat Wear. I bought a shirt for one of my sons, and went through the rack, and found a zip down hooded sweatshirt which I loved! I put an order in for one for myself. Normally I would have ordered a 2X, or even a 3X because I like my sweatshirts a little big, well, I ordered the XL!!! I am hoping to be back ordering a M or a L next year!!!

Size 16!!! on October 6, 2008 6:21 am
I can't believe it! I got brave and tried on my smallest pair of pants today, and they FIT!!! WOOHOO!!
I am down 80 pounds as of this morning, and only 4 pounds away from being half way to my goal! I dropped my oldest off at a party on Saturday, and saw some people I hadn't seen in a while. They didn't say Hi to me at first, so I thought they just didn't want to talk to me. lol
When I got closer they told me they didn't even recognize me
I am loving my RNY!!!!

My Story Where do I even begin??????
I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I actually remember my Mom giving me diet pills as young as 5th grade. I was teased throughout my school years, fortunately it wasn't that bad. I would rather it not have happened at all, but I also know it could have been worse.....
I got pregnant with my oldest son in 2001, and I think that is when the battle with my weight became so much harder. After having my 10 pound 2 ounce baby boy, I did lose most of the pregnancy weight, just to gain it all back again, plus some, within the next year and a half or so.... We started trying to have our second baby when our oldest was just a few months old, and as each month passed, I was more and more upset, and food was very comforting to me. We did finally get pregnant again with the help of fertility meds, and had our second son in 2004. When I went in for my first prenatal appointment with him, I was shocked to see that I actually weighed MORE than I did when I delivered my first son! I knew I wanted to look into this surgery after I had him. Once he stopped nursing, I did go to a seminar, and came home totally on the fence. As much as I knew I wanted this, I also knew I wanted another baby. After thinking more about it, we decided to have another baby. We needed fertility meds to get pregnant again, this time it happened very quickly.
I have always had this surgery in the back of my head, but again, decided I wanted just one more baby. Unfortunately, we were not as lucky this time around. I went to see my doctor, and they ran a series of tests, and diagnosed me with PCOS. I went back on fertility meds, but was still unsuccessful after 6 cycles, so I decided to move on to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I then went through all the Basic Infertility Testing, and another unsuccessful round of meds. We found out that both of my tubes were blocked also. The hardest part was when I went in for my consult after all of my testing, and was basically told that, due to my PCOS being so bad, the likelihood of getting pregnant on my own, was slim to none, and we should really look into IVF. Since I knew my insurance covered no part of IVF, I am home and did my research, and found that WLS could help my symptoms of PCOS, which could make getting pregnant much easier as long as I lose some weight. That was when I sat down with my husband, discussed all of our options, and decided to schedule my consult. After my consult, I felt good about my decision to hold off on any future children, and have WLS!! I have been impatiently awaiting to hear back from my insurance company, the paperwork was submitted on March 6th. I can't wait to move forth with this, and get started on my way to a new, healthier, me!!
