Hello!  I am Joanna Fee, ObesityHelp's Event Manager and Managing Editor of Bariatrics Today Magazine.
I am also a Life Coach and Cerrtified Personal Trainer.

First and foremost, I am here to support OH members in their WLS journey.  With events, I want to know what we can do to make the events better for you - our members!  Additionally, I am here to provide answers to event questions, take suggestions for Bariatrics Today magazine content, etc.

Please feel free to ask me questions, vent in my general direction, or share your personal story with me.

On a personal note, having been heavy (and depressed, and feeling like I had little to offer the world) in my younger years, I understand how difficult life can seem when you feel like there's a more happy, more healthy,(more sexy!) person inside you, but you just don't know how to bring that person out.  I have dedicated my professional career to helping people make this pivotal life journey.  Change is possible!

If you'd like to read more about my work as a life coach and CPT, please visit

Setback Shmetback

Here's what I don't get . . . . why everytime there's a bump in the road, I automatically assume that the sky is falling.

I have recently (like past 3 months) had some weight creep back on.  I am serious, it jumped onto me while I was sleeping.  LOL.  12 pounds.  Not 20, not 50, but still.  Enough for me to notice it.  I have been feeling sluggish and irritable.  I am not as engaged with people as I want to be when being social.  I have noticed that I have been short-tempered - mostly angry that I haven't carved out time to work out.

So I finally vowed on Monday to go back to basics.  I walked this morning, and fit in two other workouts.  I feel better already.  Amazing what 3 days can do for you mentally and physically.

I am glad that I had my setback.  It's a road test for when it happens again . . . and I am sure it will.  The important thing for me is to catch it before it gets out of hand.  So wish me luck.  And you over there . . . setback . . . ya I'm not scared of you!   Take that!!

Hiking Zion Narrows Canyon - Grateful!
on August 11, 2008 12:49 pm
This weekend I hiked with friends in Zion National Park in Springdale, UT.

I realized on the hike that 4 years ago, prior to losing weight, I wouldn't have been able to do anything but the tram ride portion of the hike. LOL!  I HATED/DETESTED/AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS exercise; it was not something I perceived as energizing or relaxing.

But this weekend, amidst the 300-foot high canyon walls, and me balancing myself in calf-deep water, I took it all in.  I felt completely relaxed, full of energy and enjoying every moment of it.

Who would have thought?  It's a powerful reminder to me that we can be whatever we choose to be, and we can become whatever we choose to become.  Thoughts are things, and my new thing is believing in my own possibilities!

Peace and love, Joanna
