I am back! Again.............
on May 10, 2008 5:39 am

I have to report that I have not lost much in my four years of being banded..  I gave up on the band about two years ago after failed fills and countless visits to the ER.

With that said it has gotten worse.  I have the worst acid reflux and I throw up after almost every meal.     See below from my previous post.

So, I am now slowing down a bit and taking care of me more I am back to working out and getting regular fills, although my last one was a snapshot of a fill gone wrong.  I went to the Dr. and he told me I only had 2cc left in my band.  he then added 4cc's to my band i felt fine when I left but half way home it seems that it tightened even more or maybe because i was sitting for the hour drive home not sure.  Anyway i made a trip to the er, unfortunately no one in the er was familiar with bands and i sat there for 7hours on pain meds bacause they had no idea what to do with me.

Finally a Dr. comes in who apparently use to work at a hospital in Detroit he was familiar with bands but had not dealt with them in a couple of years.  he basically stabbed my port and 3cc's shot out   finally relief!

So it is now time for me to go back I think I am just going to get 1cc to give me 4cc's I think that would be good enough for now.

Now back to the present time after about 3 of those episodes.  I went to see a surgeon last week to find that I have a band that has slipped.   how fun.  So, I am waiting to see if my insurance will pay for a revision to the sleeve.   I sure hope I hear something soon I am not sure if I can wait too much longer and leave the band in waiting for them to approve me.  I think I have a better chance of a revision if they are already removing my band.  I dont want to have two surgeries so I am doing my best to hold on.

on March 3, 2007 10:36 pm

I am doing well i am back to work unfortunately.  I went back after like 8 days it is going good i think..  i wish I could have taken off more time so if anyone is thinking of doing this I think you should be off at least 3 weeks.... The only complaint I have is port pain, I am still really sore on that side.  When I stand and sit or any abdominal movement..   I want to excercise as I have seem to have a lot of energy.  I am going to start walking next week slow at first..  i am down 17.5 lbs and hope to drop another 22 before April 16.  I am going on vacation my boo bear and I are going to Mexico so I want to be down some for that...  Well I will post later .....

Well I had my surgery.   The 5th came before I knew it especially when the night before they moved me up.  My experience was good the staff at Harper Hospital they were wonderful.  I stayed one night in a private room and was released the next afternoon after my swallow test.  The first few days at home I was very sore and tired not hungry at all.  Took pain meds and slept mostly.  after like day 4 i decided enough with the heavy drugs and switched to Tylenol so that I could stay awake and move around.  I the clear liquids were fine for the first couple of days by day 5 I moved myself to full liquids, and here I am on soft or pureed.  I do get hungry at times since i dont have any restriction yet i am waiting to see my doctor at 2 weeks follow up instead of the 1 week hoping for a fill.  I am loosing in 8 days i have lost 14 pounds I am now down to 228 for 242!!!!   I think it is wonderful.  i do kinda miss pop but I am adjusting.  I drink apple juice and I have been known to do minor cheating like not 100 % fruit juice and not always diluted but I am still loosing.  I am one of those who can not do artificial sweetner so alot of the drinks and food that some do are out of the question for me.  So I dilute when possible.   All is good I hope everyone else is doing great on the journey to weightloss.

If I can just stop weighing myself everyday I would be doing better.  I am not looking forward to the day that I have not lost anything or for bid gained something I would freak...

My Story

After reading lots of stories on here mine is really not that different..  Growing up I was actually kinda on the small side..  As a young adult pre-rugrats.  I had a great body legs to die for and the flatest stomach ever.  Then I  decided to have kids and it all went down hill literally.  I never recovered.  So here I am almost 13 years later and still not happy with the way I look.  I tried every diet and quick fix known to man or woman I should say and was just not succesful..  So I find my self (after 2 kids) having surgery to help with my fight against obesity.  (I so hate that word).

I had been thinking about it for a while like about a year,  I switched Insurance in January 07.  Turned my insurance and letter from my pcp to Dr. Wood on January 2nd. Got my approval call (well I called them my other down fall is I need to learn patience.)  So after the psych eval all I needed was blood work did that since I work at a hospital...  And here I am one week before surgery.  YIKES!

Stay tuned...
