My name is not Llenaj, it's Janell but Janell screenname was unavailable.  The photo of the lady in my avatar is not me -- it's just the closest free stock photo I found online similar to me (allbeit she's probably ten years younger). About seven months post-op I realized I really needed to change my avatar to reflect the new thinner me.

I had lap RNY a month before my 59th birthday.  My only regret about WLS is that I didn't have it five years earlier.  Life is so much better: My blood pressure has dropped 30 points to a very healthy low.  I used  to require oxygen to exercise and sleep, but was able to say "adios" to that aid at about six months post-op.  As far as my looks, my posture is improving as I learn to stand tall without the weight of too-heavy boobs on an aching back!   I'm happily surprised as I see men giving me approving glances.  People seem to like me more, which makes sense I guess since I like me more.

First Vacation at My New Size
on August 24, 2010 10:28 am
Spent a few days vacation in Palm Springs with friends I hadn't seen in at least five years.  Of course they were happy for me about my weight loss.  And we got in lots of walking and swimming.  What was very interesting to me though was that they booked a yoga session as part of their vacation recreation; it was for the day after we left, so I didn't participate.  But the idea of scheduling fitness appointments on vacation really impressed me.  Intriguing!

I'm overweight!
on June 28, 2010 9:35 pm
I'm about 7.5 months out and today left "obesity" for being only "overweight!"  I am SOOOO grateful for the experience of moving into this new health category!  Thank you, God, and Pacific Bariatrics!

Laparoscopic RNY was a success!
on November 22, 2009 6:21 pm
In my post-surgery grogginess someone, I don't know who, told me RNY surgery was a success and had even been done laparoscopically.  Even though the scarring to the stomach and surrounding tissue from previous diaphragmatic and incisional hernia repairs was extensive, dear Dr. Zorn and his surgical staff had stuck with it for four-and-a-half hours to do my RNY laparoscopically.  I never expected that good fortune, and am beyond grateful.  My gallbladder was removed also, as planned.

Surgery was early morning on Nov. 18, and I was discharged the morning of Nov. 21. The  only complication has been that my oxygen sats won't stay up without supplemental oxygen -- the result of having mild-to-moderate emphysema and lengthy surgery.  But that will pass.

My belly appears bigger and swollen and my rear-end looks smaller.  But I would be surprised to have any weight loss yet with the swollen torso.

It is surprising that I flew through the stages of no-ice and then ice-chips-only etc. without suffering.  I'm in the clear-fluids-only stage now and  was told I should start drinking one protein shake a day beginning tomorrow.  This afternoon, I was doing so well and craving some actual nutrition, so I jumped the gun and have had teeny tiny sips of a protein shake without consequence and hours later have finished nearly all 12 ozs.

Thanks God and Pacific Bariatrics.

I have a surgery date!
on October 26, 2009 10:02 pm
November 18 is going to be my big day.  Seven months after I finished the six-month Kaiser program.  Well, it takes what it takes.

More Delays
on October 3, 2009 7:22 am
Now I will be lucky if I have surgery by the first week of November.  Because of past abdominal surgeries, my doctor wanted GI tract scans, so that has delayed my surgery again.  I don't fault the doctors for being cautious, but I In the meantime, I'm starting to have problems on the job.  And I know the stress of jumping through so many hoops to get my surgery and having to keep postponing the timeperiod I will be off work has contributed to my job problems.

Given the timeline I had been told to expect, I should have had surgery three and a half months ago.  I could be nearly 50 lbs lighter by now if my surgery had been scheduled when planned.  It will happen in God's Time, if at all.
