Post-Surgery 6 days!

Aug 01, 2011

This is my first post, but my journey started 18 years ago after I had my daughter. When I gave birth, I weighed 260lbs! When she was an infant, I got down to about 235. I have been up and down from that point (mostly up) since then. The most weight I lost was about 50 lbs when my daughter was finishing third grade. I got on a medically supervised diet with meals and shakes and could eat fruits and vegetables. It was very expensive, and I gained all the weight back and then some.

Six years ago, I started researching weight loss surgery. September/October on 2010, I attended an informational seminar presented by my surgeon. At the time, I wanted the Lap-Band. Until I met with the surgeon, I thought I would go for the Lap-Band! He basically told me that they can be effective, but it is harder to lose weight and easier to cheat. I decided if I was getting surgery, I needed to go for the surgery that would bring me the best outcome. Well, fast forward to present time.

I had surgery July 26th! I felt pretty good in the hospital...walked laps the first day, etc. I went home Friday, July 29. I feel weak and tired (to be expected).

Here are my issues that I hope go away with time and healing.

1. protein! The powders are not agreeing with me. I have mixed them with milk and fruit juice. I end up on the toilet ALOT! They taste HORRIBLE! Just too sweet...even unflavored makes me want to gag. I am going to try and make some protein pudding today to see if I can tolerate it that way.
 2. taking crushed medication (blood pressure and 2 others). The medicing taste is grossing me out, even when I mix it with applesauce. Anyone have any ideas? How big of a pill piece will my new pouch tolerate to I can cut them apart and just swallow them? I guess a question for my doctor!!

Hopefully next week I will feel better!
