My 4 year anniversary!

Aug 02, 2010

Well, here I am 4 years post op.  Its been an interesting ride.  I have lost a total of 90 lbs.  I have had lipo and a tummy tuck.  So, how do I feel about this, well...I know that the decision to have the bypass was the best decision I ever made.  It has saved my life and has given me a new life. As for the plastic surgery, it was wickedly painful, probably the most painful thing I have endured, but the surgery gave me a final chance to say good bye to the overweight girl who couldn't wear regular clothes, who people scorned or avoided.  I have finally forgiven myself for becoming morbidly obese, and I allow myself every chance to go and live life like a normal person.  I swim, I walk, I hike, I kayak, I make the most of every moment.  My husband and I travel internationally as well as in our motor home.
This new life has not been without difficulties.  I did have shoulder surgery which led to pneumonia last year, as well, as having my gallbladder removed.  The fall brought the first part of the lipo and the tummy tuck, then swine flu in January and tummy tuck in february.  The gallbladder event was just a reminder that you can never forget where you have come from and the things  you must do to stay healthy.  Would I do it all again? Without a doubt, maybe I would have done a lap band, but there has not been one minute where I would turn back time and start over.  I just hope the new example I set for my daughters proves to them, you don't have to hide, you can chose to be healthy, and to respect yourself.
