Finally sleeved home and happy about it

Aug 02, 2011

I finally had my sleeve done in Richmond General by Dr. N. Nguyen (who also removed a bad gall bladder and repaired an umbilical hernia while I was under...um, I should clarify and say I knew he was going to do those things) on July 28.
After only one day, the pain of all three surgeries was really manageable with just Tylenol 3 (much better than I expected) and the following day I was off those too as the pain was no more than period cramps ... and not the worst of those by ANY stretch.
Friends brought me home to the Island on the 31 and now I'm learning all about living with my new tiny tummy (well, the internal one is tiny, the external one still has quite a way to go to be tiny!) It's all so new and amazing to me. The fact that I'm really not hungry but I do eat when I know I should... the fact that after a very few spoonfuls of creamy soup or 1/4 cup of protein drink or yogurt and I'm full... I mean I'll start to burp if I take another mouthful as I found out a couple of time... it's weird. I can see why people need to take a couple of weeks off work because just learning all this stuff is a big deal all day long.
The hard part for me is getting enough water. I'm struggling with that because I've always been a chugger not a sipper. I think if I could just rig up one of those hamster drinking bottles to my head I might just manage it. But short of such odd head gear I just have to keep my water bottle near and my elbow bending.
