Happy New Year!! Had to post an update to the endless saga here. I went to see my Dr. on the 29th of Dec. and she was very pleased with my progress and how much better I looked. She drew some blood to check my protein and albumin levels as well as my liver function tests(AST & ALT). All cleared to go back to work on the 3rd of Jan. Then out of the blue, I had another one of those horrible bile duct spasm attacks right before leaving for a last Christmas party that evening. I was in the bathroom and the pain was so bad I couldn't even stand up! I didn't want to go out of the bathroom with my pants around my ankles because some of my kids were here and who wants to see their Mom like that? Finally managed to pull up my pants and stumble out into the kitchen and gasp at my daughter to take care of the food in the oven as I had to go lay down. Managed to get to the bedroom and on the bed which helped the pain a little. When this happens, laying down is the only way to get a little relief. Luckily I had one 4mg of Dilaudid left of the few they gave me when I came home from the hospital. I was only supposed to take 2mg but I took the whole thing- it was that or go to ER and I could not abide the thought of a 40 minute drive in that much pain. I had to do that once before after my first hospitalization for this business in October. Sitting up as in the car is almost unbearable when I am having one of those attacks. My DH of course wanted to take me to ER but I told him no and said to wait and see if the Dilaudid helped, which it did after about an hour. The whole thing lasted about 3 or 4 hours and was only tolerable if I lay absolutely still on my back. This was about 5 PM and I finally got up at about 10 PM and was OK except my whole liver hurt for a few days after. I had another mild attack on New Year's Day but I quickly took a Baclofen to help the spasms and that seemed to keep it from getting too bad. So on the 30th I went back to the Dr. to see what to do about this whole mess and going back to work. The lab results were back from the previous day and  although my protein/albumin levels were back into the normal range again, as well as my calcium and hemoglobin, my Liver tests were going back up again, which was probably a sign that things are still not right in that department. He did not recheck them after the attack, but I'm sure they would have been way up as sore as my liver felt. So now I have to go see a gastroenterlogist that specializes in liver stuff to see if they can figure out why I am doing this. He gave me another week and a half off work, to make sure I don't get worse with this, so I am off until the 14th now. I have not had even a twinge of anythng now since that last mild atack on New Year's Day. I simply cannot figure out what triggers these things-I have not been able to pin it on any specific food at all, and they don't always occur after eating-this bad one was several hours after eating. I really hope we can get this figured out-I don't see the specialist until the 4th of Feb.
