Surgeon Testimonial

Nestor F. de La Cruz - Munoz
My WLS journey dates all the way back to early 2000 when I started looking into the procedure. At the time, the only options available were the Fobi Pouch and Gastric Bypass; none of which were covered by insurance. With no $$$ to pay for the surgery, my inquiry ended right there!

Fast forward to 2007...I changed jobs, insurance coverage, and PCP. During my initial visit to the PCP, he talked about my weight and suggested that I have lap band and referred me to a surgeon. I was so happy he said that because I was actually visiting him to talk about the very same thing, he beat me to the punch!

The surgeon I was referred to was very well known in my area and I was impressed by his presentation, staff, etc. I then remembered a friend of mine who had WLS to find out who did her surgery...it was Dr. De La Cruz. I did some research about him, attended his seminar, and the rest is history. What I was initially attracted to was the urgency he and his staff gave to my case. The other surgeon wanted me to wait for insurance to approve me for the surgery BEFORE he even saw me in the office for a consultation. Dr. De La Cruz’s staff saw me the very next week and I was given a surgery date even before the insurance company was contacted. That was impressive to me and that’s why I chose to have Dr. De La Cruz as my surgeon.

Additionally, his staff is very knowledgeable about the in’s and out’s of bariatric surgery. They were very patient with me, answered all of my many questions and when problems arose along the way, they always had a solution.

The first time that I actually meet and spoke to Dr. De La Cruz was minutes before he operated on me! LOL He was out of the office every single time I visited his office for pre-op appointments…he’s a very guy in Miami. He is a young, friendly, and professional surgeon that I highly recommend to anyone who needs to have WLS. Thanks, Dr. De La Cruz, Dr. Aszuje & Staff!

I AM MORE THAN A CONQUEROR!!!!!

I'VE BEEN OFFICIALLY BANDED!!!!!
on February 1, 2008 4:13 pm

YIPPEEEE!!!!!!

Surgery went as scheduled this past Wednesday! My cold wasn't even an issue since the fever and runny nose was gone. I'm home now recuperating, walking, trying to deal with my new sore tiny stomach, and just thanking God for my blessing...a new lease on life and great health!

I'm soooooooooo proud of myself for taking this stand. I look forward to nothing but pure success with my band...I know that I shall do well, wanna know why? BECAUSE I'M MORE THAN A CONQUEROR!!!! Nothing defeats me, I am victorious!

Thank you to all of my friends for your prayers, supports, words of advice, encouragement, etc. You have truly been a blessing to me during these past couple of weeks with my many questions and inquires.

As of today, I have lost 32 lbs., that's just with the pre-op diet. since surgery, I've lost about 5 lbs.

Thanks again!

Uh oh...
on January 28, 2008 6:35 am

I caught a cold over the weekend which threatens to halt my surgery on Wednesday. My surgeon said that if I still have the runny nose and high fever on Wednesday morning that he may have to cancel the surgery! The fever broke on last night, thank God, but I still have a runny nose and nasal congestion. I pray this cold leaves or at least lessens enough for the surgery to continue. I've worked too hard these past 2 weeks to be deterred by a simple cold!

I've lost another 2 pounds on the optifast diet, bringing me up to a total weight loss of 25 lbs. pre-opt. HALLELUJAH! The milk of magnesia has me running to the bathroom like every 30 minutes....URRRGH!!! No pain, no gain huh?

I shall be victorous for I am more than a conqueror through Him that loves me!

31st B-day!
on January 26, 2008 12:18 pm

Well, yesterday was my 31st birthday and I'm grateful to God for another year of life, health, and strength. It is amazing to me how a person who has as much excess weight on thier body as I do can be is such great shape. I know without a shadow of a doubt that it has been God's hand of protection upon my life and yesterday made me be truly appreciative and humbled. I know people who are not nearly as heavy as I am that have a myriad of health issues; some have even died, but God has spared me! Thank you Jesus! I am grateful!

Counting today, I have only 4 days until my lap band surgery and I'm so excited I could shout! I'm still on my liquid diet (except for yesterday, shhhhh....don't tell my surgeon) and I've lost about 20-24 pounds since my initial visit with Dr. de le Cruz. Tommorow (Sunday), I'm supposed to start taking milk of magnesia 3x a day.

Ya'll keep me in your prayers.

Only 8 days to go!
on January 22, 2008 10:06 am

I recieved notice from my surgeon's office on last Thursday that my insurance company has approved after the first letter was sent!!! YIPPEEEE

I had to immediately go and pick up my Optifast shakes to begin the next morning. Today is day #5 on the pre-op liquid diet. Honestly the shakes are not that bad. I find myself fighting my mind more than fighting the physical urge to eat. Although my body is satisfied with the shakes, my mind is telling me that I need to eat. I guess this is the typical struggle of someone like me.

Anyway, I can't wait until the surgery which is just 8 days away. I feel as though my life is about to change forever! I'm excited, excited, excited!!!
