This is my 3rd time trying to get the gastric bypass and it has been a long journey with the insurance company. I decided I wanted it done when I was 20 years old, I have been over weight all my life even as a child. Its taken 3 long years! I've tried tons of diets, and working out nothing seemed to work and kept the weight off after I lost what little I did! So this is the long journey now THE DOCTORS visit: when you go meet with the insurance nurse that if you have BC BS you will have to loose 10% of your body weight ( my thought of this is if I could do that and maintain it I would have already done it and would not have to be here) Well that was hard but I did it within 2 months time and 500 calorie diet! THE next DOCTORS VISIT to the PCP to weigh in so he can write the insurance letter :) he wrote it and within 3 weeks the INSURANCE approves its finally the last time. The long wait to meet the SERGENT.. that was almost a month from the approval of the insurance. I would call everyday to see if anyone canceled which 4 days after my birthday they called and had one (so nervous by this time) I went for my appointment had the hour to hour and a half meeting. After we talked asked questions he said lets schedule the surgery the soonest he had open was JULY 22ND! So I took that date and the next day I had to start my liquid diet. (this is going to be a new blog)
